The Expanse S1E1+2 Dulcinea - The Big Empty

Comments

had no idea you were watching the expanse! joined patreon just for this. time to bingeeee

Mo

This is the one Sci-Fi show I would highly recommend to people. It can feel a little hard to watch to start off with but boy does it ramp up. The crew are so awesome.

Grif Kane

Took me three tries to get through these episodes. I just could not stay awake. I really want to watch this because I've heard good things about it. I'll give a few more episodes.

Bradley Weeks

Note that for the Expanse, the first few episodes arent that dopamine-loaded like other shows. You’ll need time to understand it 😉

Axel Graf

This is a great show but I remember it took me several episodes before I was really into it. Like episode 7 or 8. Anxious to see what you guys think.

Stephanie Bedworth

I had similar experience before.. so hyped by my friends, but then I couldn't make it past episode 2 on my own. I'm looking forward to trying again with R&T

Louis Hung

Ok thanks. I guess I need more of an instant dopamine boost when I'm watching TV 😁

Elle

First couple of episodes are quite dense and overbearing to some new viewers, i felt same thing, but they were sold and onboard after the first two eps so i think safe to say they are continuing, its a great show but being dropped into a complex world with factions and many locations means its a tougher onboarding than on some shows. I'd definitely give it more of a chance!

lemmy

I gave up 20 mins in. I might wait and see if you guys continue and decide if I want to give it a go then lol.

Elle

I started watching this a few years ago... got to episode 4 and life stuff came up... didn't have time to watch more.... I'm so happy that I'll go on this journey with you guys. Even though I just want to press next, i'll resist!

Milen Mladenov

This is such an amazing show, but the first few episodes are a bit of a slog just because of how dense the universe is. The characters all seem to be on their own journeys and none of the events are connected....or are they? Just keep at it, you won't regret it 😜

Joseph Bayley

I’m so happy you guys finally started with The Expanse. I have watched nearly all of my favorite reactors react to it. This is pretty much EXACTLY how everyone feels after the first few episodes - CORRECTION, you guys are actually more positive than normal after the first two episodes. It took me 4 episodes to be hooked… after that, it eventually became my favorite sci-fi tv show of all time. I think it will make it to your Top 10 tv show list. After ep. 4, you’ll know what kind of show this is….

Chris07

took me I think 3 episodes to find my feet tbh, moreso than most shows, and am usually all over complex shows usually, so just give it a few eps and it'll all slot into place and be worth it

lemmy

I'll keep going with this one but I was completely lost for the first 45 minutes 😂😂 contrast to the 100/TWD and other shows where we get to find out what's going on with the character rather than jumping straight into plot lines that already seem to be occurring. Or maybe I'm just a bit simple minded for this type of scifi show 😂😂

Shelley

As mentioned above by others, the first few episodes and the first season, in general, is a lot of worldbuilding and getting you introduced to all the players and lingo..But if you're not hooked after Episode 4, then The Expanse might not be for you.. (Although I've never seen anyone stop after Episode 4)

Superpotroast

Wasnt expecting to see death from supernatural in this, Julian Richings, the guy the detective talked to and got the coins from on the subway, he's one of my favorites

Sand Man

So excited to watch this with you guys, it’s one of my top 3 shows of all time. The first few episodes are a bit of an information dump, but you’ve taken it all in your stride and things will really start to kick off soon. I’m certain that you will become immersed in this universe and come to love the characters as the rest of us do. There is a name for the Expanse fandom, just as Firefly fans are called Browncoats, but the phrase hasn’t been mentioned in the show yet, so I won’t spoil it for you. So glad you’re enjoying it so far - but holy crap things are going to get good!

Laura Dawson

Hyped for this, season 1 has a lot of world building but y'all are doing great so far. I am sure you will have no end of Expanse nerds in your comments giving you explanations. Be as quiet as you need to be to get in the rhythm of the show. After a bit I feel like you'll understand how they are pushing story and it will be easier to digest. If you get really into you'll start to pick up bits of belter creole, I love the little language they made of it for the show. Love this show, love this crew. I have watched this show at least a dozen times since. One day when I can wrangle my attention span into something workable I'll continue with the books. I think Jonathan Banks (Mike) did this between the end of Breaking Bad and the Beginning of Better Call Saul. I remember him from an episode of Star Trek: DS9 but in 50 years I am sure he yas done plenty of other sci-fi. Would have been nice to have him longer than one scene but always happy to see hm in any capacity.

James W.

Yes, people have referred to James Holden as "space Jon Snow." The actors have a similar look and the characters have a similar heroic naiveté. Great show. Looking forward to rewatching with you!

Probably one of if not the most scientifically accurate science fiction series out there - the concept of "flip-and-burn," the use of gravity as a means of torture for belters, the Coriolis effect on the water Miller pours due to the method of artificial gravity on Ceres. These first two episodes blew me away so much I started reading the book series and tore through all nine - and I'm not much of a reader. Plus it made me wonder what zero-g sex would be like...

Michael Celia

OMG! Now I have to re-watch 24 again! ! recommend the series to R&T for consideration in a future poll.

Geniousatqw (The Quantum Wiccan)

Luckily, Rob and Trin are intelligent individuals.

Michael Celia

And so it begins.. One of my favorite sci-fi series, books included..

Superpotroast

Pretty good show so far I wanna see more though. These 2 episodes were sensory overload so much information dumped. I like the world building and the soundtrack a lot, I think my favorite characters/storyline right now is the detective and his partner with the cactus.

James

Nice reaction, i love this show. The realism most people talk about can be seen in stuff like the ship turning so it can use the thrusters to break(the amount you use the thrusters to accelerate is the same you need to break, so going to Jupiter for example you accelerate half the way, then decelerate half the way), also the gravity, the effect of the gravity on the body, the effects of sudden acceleration/deceleration. Also all locations are real if that was not obvious, Ceres for example is a dwarf planet (same as Pluto) situated between Mars and Jupiter in the asteroid belt, that's why the faction is called the belters. Ceres is thought to have more water under it's crust(sub surface ocean) than the Earth, but Ceres is smaller than the moon. Also Mars is smaller than the Earth and it has 1/3 the gravity. Also this is a cool thing made by Nasa, it might help: https://science.nasa.gov/solar-system/ (you have to click dwarf planets in filters to see Ceres)

Deathhead

Amazing show. Watched every episode. ❤️

Beware The Jabberwock

Yay. I still have the last season of this show to watch and I look forward to watching it with you.

Adrienne

This show is AMAZING!! Great soundtrack and great characters too. It gets a lot of legitimacy points for being accurate with how space travel would/could work - especially how dangerous a “turn and burn” is to the human body - as well as how harsh it would be to go from a low gravity “belter” life to the gravity of earth. I love that you call Miller (Thomas Jane) “Not Tom Hardy,” some people call the actor that plays Holden (Steven Strait) “low budget Billy Bob Thornton.” 🤭 it’s a LOT of information at the start - but it’s soooooooooo worth it! 🛰️☄️🚀

Beware The Jabberwock

Never watched this show, but I am here for the journey!

Anthony Ancona

Omg finally!! This is gonna be so good I love this show!! 😍

somehavepuresouls

I’ve not seen this show, but have heard really good things about it. Looking forward to watching it with you. 🙂

Jan T

**Fair Warning** At no point will this show hold your hand and lay everything out for you with some easily digestible overly-expository dialog, which is all too prevalent in TV and film today. The writers & producers assume that you, the viewer, are reasonably intelligent individuals who can figure out certain things independently. It's one of the things I love about this series. That said, the show does plenty of "show, don't tell," so pay plenty of attention. ;)

William

Get ready for a wild ride!

Matt Peterson
