X-Men The Last Stand (2006)

It's always so awful and sad to me, that when the dad bursts into the bathroom to find that his little boy has mutilated and harmed his body with knives and files, and there's blood everywhere, he says "Oh no, not you". It's even worse when that boy is grown, and his father is coercing him to have this "cure". I think about what that poor kid has been through from being maybe 12 years old to an adult.

Check out clips from Pete Holmes old show. The episodes are called ex-men. Pete Holmes plays Xavier and fires an x-man on each video.

Reverend Jim Jones

Magneto for sure cares about mutants but the writing here definitely didn’t do him justice

Interesting thought! I don't think the 'cure' would have worked. I have a feeling she'd have just chemically neutralised it. It doesn't seem far-fetched to wonder if she could even absorb and use it herself against other mutants, in the short-term.

This movie hasn't aged that badly actually. When it came out so many people were calling it the worst super hero movie ever made, when compared to X-Men and X2. Seeing Rob & Trin react and actually like it, and Rob not knowing whether X2 or X3 was better kind of blew my mind. But it's also interesting to see how much of the hate for X3 really just had to do with comic book fans and their expectations at the time. It really is a fitting end to the trilogy they made, all things considered. It's just that Losing Cyclops, Xavier, Magneto, and Jean (not to mention how they handled Rogue) is sort of like slaughtering 4-5 sacred cows at the same time. It's sort of like getting to The Avengers and finding out they killed off Thor, Loki, Captain America, and completely ruined Black Widow's character before the MCU even got off the ground. When I say people HATED this movie I mean they HATED hated it.

You guys brought up an interesting point--maybe on accident--when you commented that Wolverine should have brought more of those "cure" shots with him to stick Jean at the end. The question is, would that have worked? This isn't an absolute as the Pheonix story has changed and evolved itself; afterall it has been around for almost 50 years. But generally speaking, in the comics Jean plays host to the Pheonix Force, which is its own entity. Her abilities and near limitless pool of untaped power make her a better fit than most other X-Men/mutants. In the last scene of X2 she does talk about "evolution leaping forward" when they show the Pheonix for the first time, so the implication seems to be that it's a power inherent to her mutation. But you also clearly see that the Pheonix has its own goals and persoanlity. So would it have worked, within the creative boundaries of this trilogy? Maybe. But probably not.

Fun fact Rob n Trin. The actor who plays Pyro is also Jimbo from Fear The Walking Dead.

I find this movie such a let-down after X2. Just one to get past on the way to some better ones.

Rogue k8nda got screwed in the movies. She was much bigger in the comics because she was tricked by mystique into holding onto captain marvel (at that time called Ms marvel) long enough to kill her and if she does that she gains some of the powers permanently so rogue gained the powers of flight and super strength and ms marvel was resurrected as captain marvel. But fox had no right to captain marvel and since marvel was doing pre planning for the mcu at this point they couldn't have made a deal for her

Rigs216

charles and magneto were designed after martin luther king jr and malcom x respectively, 2 people fighting for the same end to segregation and prejudice in very different ways

15?? From my calculations, DP3 will be the 14th…

Just lovin this month!

I enjoy very much the film for what it is and the moment it came out, but I've always felt the same. They've never done the Dark Phoenix arc, with all it's implications and POWER manifested true justice. Also, it always bothered me that Rogue never was quite treated the right way, plus I miss Gambit. 😊

Marisol Ferreira

The guy in the bed at the end is the one that Charles showed in Moira's video, who was in a coma and he asked if it would be right to move someone's consciousness into his body. Charles moved his own into it.

Xavier basically transfered his mind into a comatose body, he was telling the students about that as an ethical dilema earlier in the movie. Also Rogue is supposed to have more powers, but a certain event from the comics never happened.

Deathhead

And here we start the radical up and down in quality of the X Men movies as Fox could not figure out what to do going forward. Go forth knowing they swung and missed and made live action cartoons. Some realllllllly questionable movies coming, one that rivals the MCU's best, all good fun!

I've always been very underwhelmed with this movie. It's not bad, but it fails to do the Dark Phoenix saga any justice. I don't want to spoil the comics obviously, so all I will say is that this movie is not even scratching the surface of this incredible story arc. I like Famke Janssen a lot in this role, and I think with the right material, she could have been an amazing Dark Phoenix, but this movie takes just one basic idea from the comics, that Jean is the Phoenix and the Phoenix turns bad, and completely neglects everything else that made that story arc so great and iconic. In my opinion, there has never been a genuinely good portrayal of the Phoenix arc and character in any live-action X-Men adaptation, one that could even remotely live up to the source material.

Forty

Just an FYI, there's 15 X-men movies. I don't know how are when they fit into the time-line of the MCU.

Anthony Ancona

AGREED! 😅

Cynthia

I hope they remember the rest of Stewart or McAvoy joke that Deadpool made lol

Cynthia

I totally forgot the great Shohreh Aghdashloo (the doctor at Alcatraz that got porcupined) was in this. She's awesome as Avasarala in The Expanse (wink wink).

Michael Celia

Yea Pyro had a lighter built in his sleeve. He cant create fire

james moore

You guys are right about Warren looking like an angel. That’s his actual mutant codename. Addie Counts would agree that his wings are beautiful. When Ashleigh Burton reacted to this, she said she wouldn’t even think of getting rid of such a badass power. I see both sides of the picture. Much like Logan, I also understand and respect that Rogue wants to have a normal life as a human. This topic resonates very strongly to real-life body rights. Her body her choice. Personally though, if I were a mutant and I could control my power I wouldn’t want to get rid of it. Rather I see myself and the X-Men helping each other out. They can teach me how to better control my ability, and I would gladly be part of the team if I can help make the world better.

Aldo Gonzales

Moira was in the beginning of the movie when Charles was talking about the ethical dilemma of placing someone else’s conscience into a brain dead body, so it was suggesting that he did that right before dying

Tatumness

“I’m the juggernaut, bitch!”

Schmaster

When watching X-men wolverine origins don’t forget to treat it as a stand alone film. Some things lineup but a lot don’t. It would save a lot of confusion.

Quincy Burns

Yes!!! I’ll watch this after watching the new WALKING DEAD spinoff!!! 🤫🤫🤫🥳🥳🥳😁

Nora

Thanks for giving me an excuse to stay up for 2 more hours 😅
