2024-03-08 11:58:11 +0000 UTCSome of the best FX I had seen until like The Creator which handles cybernetics as good as I have ever seen it. It was awesome in the theater and I hope Cameron/Rodriquez come back to it at some point. I'm not sure why it didn't see bigger success but iirc it failed to meet financial expectations. Probably just because all the MCU stuff coming out around that time was doing near a billion a release so studios expected that from every big budget action movie. I love Christoph Waltz and he did a good job as the father figure but didn't sell the hunter-warrior side of the character for me. Would have loved seeing someone like Hiroyuki Sanada in the role, he can do action and not for nothing, Ido is a Japanese name so it would have been cool to have a Japanese actor in the role. There are more books of the manga. The anime adaption from the late 80s or 90s was basically the same as what we got here with some embellishments. It has some awkward parts but it is a really cool adaption of the first part of the manga. I got to like book 4 of the manga and then fell off. I have to dig through my old books and finish it. Great reaction as always.
