When they first came down, Shaw asked for the non-violent ones to come with him... and Diyoza was like... yeah, all two of them. Vinson comes across as the serial killer variety. Abby surmised that the disease they are dealing with is a consequence of what they'd been mining... and she was looking at films of black spots on their lungs. Abby's diagnosis was Pulmonary Tumefaction. (Which Diyoza already knew... but was testing if Abby was a good enough doctor.) Also known as Black Lung. A common affliction of coal miners, in our history.
