Please check out www.dark.netflix.io at least once for a way better experience, this show is really complicated and they've made a awesome website to keep track of the names and relations, and it's completely spoiler-free. Just click on Season 2 then episode 1 and you can brush up on the names and family trees and storylines.

(I'm sure it's not actually aliens...the previously mentioned "God particle" perhaps? Man, this show is making me use parts of my brain that haven't been used in years!)

Once I realized the level of casting nuances... it was generally easy to 'see' who a new character was meant to be. (Like, the first time I watched this episode... I guessed who young Noah killed in the beginning, based on his looks alone.)

There is always a resemblance ... and sometimes a family resemblance also. It really helps to keep that in mind, when trying to recognize younger / older versions of these characters.
