I like Slughorn. He's a great example of a character who is extremely narcissistic without really being 'bad' as such. Unlike Lockhart from Chamber of Secrets, who's also very narcissistic but incredibly dangerous and a complete arsehole. Slughorn's not the type who wants all the fame and glory because of his own deeds. He'll just do all he can to share in the glory of others by bragging about who he knows and adopting people he sees as excellent.

2023-12-23 16:30:06 +0000 UTCExtra context because you guys were curious if Draco even had the ability to kill Dumbledore at the end there: Voldemort was furious with Lucius Malfoy at the end of the last movie for failing to get the prophesy from Harry. (If you remember, he ended up dropping it and it broke.) As punishment for his failure, Voldemort forced Draco to complete this impossible task of assassinating Dumbledore. Draco was never meant to be able to pull it off. Everybody knew he would fail, and then Voldemort would kill him for it. It was all just a way of torturing Lucius. He was unable to even try to give his son any guidance because he was locked away in a cell in Azkaban. His son was being set up to fail and there was nothing he could do about it.

Snape has wanted that position since posted but he was refused because Dumble didn't want him to be tempted with his old ways. However this was more important so Slughorn got his spot and so did Snape. Now, think of the curse of the position. Snape finally got to be Prof. Of the Defense of Dark Arts. It then signaled his last year as a teacher due to the curse. Evey puzzle fit. I'm so excited for Deathly Hallows 1&2
