It took a while after clicking play, but it is working now for me. I tried to open the sync and play on one tab and another one to try to download. Can you try again please?

Christine

this link just does not want to work for me

Nathan Roe

What's funny is that Celine Dion didn't like that song either. She reeeeally didn't like it. It grew on her, and thankfully she liked it a lot more over time. Imagine that though, you're a musician, you've been singing and selling records since you were a child, and the one song everybody is going completely nuts over is one you didn't like singing in the first place!

Hazel Angus

I really appreciated your reactions to this. It hits very differently for me, watching it with you and your fresh adult perspectives, than when I saw it as a child. Mr Andrews' behaviour is particularly gut-wrenching in the film. He wanted all the necessary lifeboats but was overruled, and he made sure the captain and his men (lieutenants?) knew what was going to happen, and how fast. I get very teary when he goes searching for people personally, trying to give as many of them whatever push they needed to go, put a lifebelt on, find a boat and get off. He's such a good actor - I can see the terrible guilt in Andrews' eyes. I don't know what the historical Andrews did, assuming there was one. I know the descendants of Ismay and Murdoch were extremely upset about how their relatives were portrayed, but Andrews might well have been fictional. Bruce Ismay in the film encouraged Captain Smith to light the last boilers, and William Murdoch in the film was the one who clearly didn't intend to be killing anybody, ended up shooting two people, and then unalived himself. There was an officer who did exactly that, and multiple eye-witnesses saw it, but we don't know if it was Murdoch.

Hazel Angus

Guys! That single shoe we see at the beginning on the shipwreck, just before the broken spectacles and creepy opera mask - I'm pretty sure that shoe belonged to Rose. We see Rose's shoes at almost the same angle when Jack saves her from falling into the sea and unfortunately makes himself look like a rapist. Pointy toe, pointy heel. The angle of the shots are so close that I think we're meant to spot that eventually. Only took me 25 years! She took her shoes off during the below-decks dancing, and we don't see her putting them back on. We also don't see her wearing them again after that.

Hazel Angus

The level of arrogance and hubris - you're right, it's mad. They really did think it was unsinkable. The number of things that went wrong or created the conditions that led to the sinking - there were so many, according to the film. - Ship is too big with too small a rudder. - Flat calm sea, icebergs harder to see. - Lighting last boiler and increasing speed. - Half the necessary lifeboats. - Tried to turn the ship. They might have been more likely to survive if they had rammed the iceberg head-on. Turning the ship made the damage catastrophic due to punching all the compartments. - According to the night staff, they have no idea where the binoculars for the lookout are, not seen them since Southampton, nor are they really concerned about that. If ANY one of the above had not been so, they might have survived, at least - potentially - until rescue.

Hazel Angus

There's a point where Cal has put his coat over Rose and she and Jack have had to flee deeper into the ship to escape him. That coat was heavy and it got caught on one of the gates/fences when Jack and Rose are hit by a sudden wave of water. Kate was trapped underwater and I think she genuinely could have drowned. Director just asked for another take. I don't know if he knew exactly what had happened or not.

Hazel Angus

When Rose has to go down the stairs and monkeybar along the pipes because the corridor is nearly full to the ceiling - when Kate cries out as she immerses herself fully, that was real. As you pointed out, it was painful. Those who worked on the film say that they were pumping in sea water, and using so much of it that it couldn't all be heated. Nor was it especially hygienic. One reason this looks so good in my opinion, and the SFX don't jar you out of the story, is that there were a lot of shots that were real and dangerous. Obviously in a production shot during 1996, fixing it in post was not really an option like it is now. Kate got hypothermia, and she had close-up shots where she was weighted down and 12 feet underwater in a tank, and was pretty scared. She said her regulator for air had a problem at one point. Not to mention she apparently chipped an elbow and sustained a lot of bruising.

Hazel Angus

I'm from Chippewa and work in Lake Wissota and I always feel such a connection when he mentions it. And it is cold af lol

Ae Jae Meade

I wished I could have the Ending of your reaction but the video stopped playing! Ok. Scratch that. It finally came back on and got to finish it! You guys are so amazing reacting to this wonderful but tragic movie!

Cyndi McCoy

I remember during my childhood I was so fascinated with the Titanic, I don't tones of research and I even did a school project about the Titanic. what I researched of the "rumor" I heard, I'm calling it that because I hope it isn't true. That there was multiple options that was ignored that could have prevented the tragedy. I can't recall who ignored the advice but I know it was multiple people that ignored the advice, it's so hard for me to watch certain scenes of this movie. The very detailed reality of some scenes of all the lives of lost, I don't want to mention kids or children because I can feel myself choking up. I was once on a cruise ship, short story. It's a feeling that it's once in a lifetime, but I don't ever wanted to be on any kind of ship or boat again. I'm terrified of big water, it is my worst nightmare because I'm a natural sinker not a swimmer. So if anything goes wrong I'll be one of the first ones to be checked out. I love this movie, I'll give it a 10 stars. I would like to keep watching it like it was my favorite movie but it's a bit lengthy and time consuming to finish it in one sitting.

Carl

Our Rose was almost ready to jump off a boat to her death when she met Jack, she was hardly a person in a normal state of mind. Perhaps it's not quite as unrealistic if one person in the situation is that far away from what their 'normal' reality and headspace would be.

Hazel Angus

They've done proper analysis lol there's literally a whole documentary on the engineering of it how they cheaped out, how an explosion happened and massive fire broke out weakening the welds etc.

Tylor Smith

I don't think that's possible to determine Tylor - just too many variables exist to do a proper analysis. Certainly too many to be able to state something that conclusively. It's certainly true that they cut costs by cutting corners though. Probably a perfect storm situation. Cut costs, too-small rudder, all engines ahead full, all boilers lit, totally calm night, and they hit that iceberg at an angle that was catastrophic.

Hazel Angus

Jesus Christ, guys - your timing is impeccable. And again, with the submersible that was lost days after you uploaded this, they cut corners, and their timing was like, "now or never, we've got to do it now or never", because in part, they wanted the headlines, the kudos, the excitement.

Hazel Angus

Another fact. The company that the band worked for actually billed their families for the lost uniforms. Anything to make a buck.

Caroline

What gets me is when Rose gets in the boat the difference between Jack and Cal. Cal looks at her with his head forward while Jack has his entire head tilted down looking at her. 🥲

Mara Smith

I also don’t like this movie. It’s not only unrealistic, but the ending is screwed up.

Angela

When I watched titanic at the cinema I was the one who screamed out at the end "but what about the Grandad!" 😯🫢 I was 13 yrs old when I first watched it and I was haunted for the rest of my life by the ending - the poor Grandad who she married and spent the rest of her life with only to go back and meet Jack in the afterlife. 😥 now...as a widow in my late 30s the film sucks even harder 😭 like you Rob, I seem to always be chopping onions 🌰 when I watch this film!

@AmethystRock

I only know one other person who didn’t like this movie besides me. I’ve never understood the need to make up an unrealistic relationship like this one when so many true survivors had wonderful stories to be told. I just never liked it....I know....I’m an outlier...lol

GeekMom

Its crazy the timing of this reaction

Jay13

Beautiful reaction! I’ve only seen this film once before when in college, so this was my first re-watch. I actually think I was more moved during this second time watching with you guys, maybe bc I had more focus this time. It’s interesting how you talked about having watched documentaries about the Titanic before seeing this film. That’s how I was, too. Before I saw this film, I had also watched a handful of documentaries about the real Titanic. It is a real accomplishment that James Cameron managed to tell a good fictional story while also respecting the true history and weight of the actual tragedy. Rob saying, "Why is this getting to me? That’s so stupid.” I don’t think it’s stupid. It’s beautiful that you’re moved by it. She looked at him with a deep trust that only comes from intimacy. I think that type of trust born from intimacy will always be moving. We’re made for it. It’s beautiful. Trin, thank you! Immediately, when Rob said it was his only Kate Winslet film, I was like, oh y’all need to watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind! And then you said it Trin! Agreed! That film is a must-see. You should do a reaction to that one one day, even though Trin’s already seen it, Rob hasn’t. As always, it’s so fun re-watching films with you guys! This was a great one!

Chrissy

Omg I just read about the tourist submarine that was going down to titanic is missing!!!! That is the scariest thing I could imagine! They don't know where it is is right now or why they went missing or if they are alive!

Angelina Sargent

Taking eyewitness accounts and theorizing what happened researchers determined skimping on material costs, safety procedures etc led to a hull not put together properly, a spontaneous combustion in the engine room causing a massive fire weakening the metal, with only half the rivets when he tapped that iceberg it put holes in it. Researchers also say that if the ship was built correctly no skimping etc the ship would have been able to hit the iceberg fine with 0 issues. Go research it. It's not a conspiracy it's pretty much all agreed upon at this point. . Also multiple documentaries on the construction of it too.

Tylor Smith

How did an explosion back in the engine room propagate all the way up to open the bow to the ocean?

JD Nevesytrof

Rob sort of eluted to it in the video, but if Disney makes another Pirates movie...without Depp, I think Leo could pull it off.

adam99x

exactly how i do it lol. i had to pass on this one as i cant watch movies on a small 'screen'

SamT

The ship sank due to cheap welds, skipping rivets and an explosion in the engine room. The iceberg didn't sink the ship.

Tylor Smith

Kate and Leo have had a very special friendship since Titanic too, often declaring their love for each other

Kim Magee

I agree about Kate, also good was contagion 2011, esp after covid lol, and The mountain between us, I want to watch The Dressmaker too

Kim Magee

My Dad and I go to these exhibits regularly

Lil' Slim Fourzkin

Like I need another reason to 💓 you Rob!! I too have always been fascinated....obsessed really with Titanic. I've read through almost ALL of Encyclopedia Titanica (https://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/) a INCREDIBLE resource about everything from every passenger (along with pictures, stories of life either before or after Titanic or even on board) to the ship herself, the amenities, trouble before launch etc. I've watched and/or listened to hours of YouTube from surviving passengers and crew. The trial/depositions from surviving officers to White Star Line officials after the families sued. Ugh the stories from the survivors were just HORRIFIC!! Did you know White Star Line actually BILLED the families of the deceased for the uniforms their sons wore while horrifically dying?!? Just disgusting!! The turmoil some of the survivors endured after was insane. The documentary Call to Duty: The Funeral Director’s Response to the Titanic Disaster – 1912 is REALLY cool, it's about the coroner called to identify the bodies and effects and how he actually revolutionized the field of body identification and care standards for the deceased. As fascinating as the subject of "Titanic" as a whole is this may actually be the most interesting and "note worthy" yet least known topic when the tragedy is discussed. Disney+ has 2 docs "Titanic 20yrs later" and "Back to Titanic" that are cool watches regarding the movie & facts but YouTube is better for individual or topical knowledge. I could literally go on forever and site a billion videos, articles and sites. If you Rob (or anyone else) are interested in more lemme know and I can attach stuff in the comments. 💕

Katie Young

Its such a great, charming movie!

Vonnie Stewart

I was just thinking this! I love Kate in The Holiday

Rebeccaf87

Correct, he was the master baker on the ship. He did hold on to the bow as the ship.went down (similar to the depiction) and made it to the capsized boat witha few officers and I believe 3 passengers. I am obsessed with all things Titanic. His story is quite amazing really...well they all are aren't they. 💔

Katie Young

yall need to watch The Holiday with Kate Winslet, jude law, etc

Vonnie Stewart

James Cameron may only release a movie every 10-15 years, but when he does you can be rest assured that it will be epic. He is currently responsible for 3 of the 5 top grossing movies to date. The other 2 spots are held by the MCU & Star Wars and all 5 are now owned by Disney, all hail the Mouse 🙌😆 I am with Trin when it comes to the Kate Winslet love, she is awesome. Rob should absolutely watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Sense and Sensibility(1995) is another great movie starring a young Kate. RIP Bill Paxton, he worked with James Cameron frequently, starting all the way back with The Terminator (1984) when almost no one knew who either of them were. Bill was also in Aliens (1987) which was directed by James Cameron, Ridley Scott directed Alien (1979) It was a great spending a rainy afternoon watching this classic with you guys, it is always a pleasure. Congrats on 20,000 subs!

CheshireKat528

The timing of this upload a submarine showing tourists the Titanic wreck went missing in the Atlantic Ocean.

Taylor

That Was Bill Paxton. RIP

Anthony Tucceri

Great idea. Movies she’s either seen and Rob hasn’t or neither of them have seen.

Steven Schmaling

OK, no worries. Too bad, but shit happens. 🤷‍♂️ I don't really like having the movie audio mixed in with your reactions. I prefer watching the movie projected on the big screen and have y'all on my laptop next to me. Better movie video quality and I can adjust the volume mixing to my own preference. But I guess I'll make an exception for this one! 😜 Thanks for the reply! 👍

Onno Smits

You will have to use the links for this one, no idea why the blurred version is corrupted and I cant even redo it :( never happened before and 0 things I can do about it :(

Take a Ticket

Yes based on true stories are amazing

Kim Magee

They will fix it, in the meanwhile you can use the links below the video.

Anatol

The YouTube video seems to have been deleted. Any chance of a re-upload?

Onno Smits

Also I agree with Trin that you should watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Maybe have a Trin’s Picks month!!

Simon Williams

There is a documentary called “Ghosts of the Abyss” by James Cameron where Bill Paxton actually goes down to the real Titanic wreckage. It’s very good. Also, James Cameron’s brother, Mike, built the case that was able to contain the camera that filmed footage for “Titanic” (— so the pressure didn’t crush it.) After this film he invented a deep ocean rover that was used to shoot the footage for the documentary. The Cameron boys have actually done a lot for filming deep underwater, whether for film or research. Pretty cool!

V

Just gonna throw this out there. “Based On A True Story” month someday. I think you’d get some great, unexpected and super emotional movies recommended

Simon Williams

This is correct, down to the fact that Cameron used an actual piece of wood that would have been on Titanic, a door frame that there is surviving documentation of. The buoyancy is the thing, not the size.

JD Nevesytrof

My best friend's Great Grandmother was a nurse on Carpathia, the ship thar rescued the she surviors. My grandmother, who was 6 years old at the time remembered getting the newspaper for the family and seeing the artist rendering of the tragedy of the sinking of the Titanic. Trin, I laughed a little when you talked about your friend seeing this movie 15 times in the theaters, which was 2 more times than I did. I still cry to this day watching this beautiful film about a horrific event. I wished Rose had gotten pregnant with Jack's baby in the car. Though being single and pregnant would have made life a bit more difficult.

Anthony Ancona

Yeah I went a few times, everything I saw the preview, I wanted to go again

Kim Magee

D'you know I was searching my brain trying to think where I remember the 'I thought the old lady...' line from. It was the Britney song! Was gonna bug me til I remembered, thanks! haha

Cele B

Also cheers to britney spears for spoiling the end of the movie for me before I got to watch it back in the day... oops I did it again blatantly took away the mystery of what happened with the diamond. Hahaha

Angelina Sargent

The most ironic part of the movie is that Jack most likely would have survived if he didn't have to take care of Rose... she should have stayed on the life boat at least the 2nd time she got offered a seat. The 1st time she wouldn't have saved jack because he was locked up down below.

Angelina Sargent

Yea, it’s very much a ‘show don’t tell’ style. Though it didn’t stop a lot of people getting annoyed at it over the years.

Max

I got it in the movie, because when they both tried to hop on it started sinking and Jack made a face like realizing that he had to chose to stay in water if he wanted to save her. 😔 at least, that's what I took from the movie

Jenny Lee Villanueva

There were binoculars aboard the Titanic, but unfortunately a man named David Blair forgot to hand over a key to a crow's nest locker containing binoculars.

Taylor

The actor looks like the identical twin of the captain of Titanic. Photo of actual captain... "https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jR7b4Eha410/T33X-LcF34I/AAAAAAAAB88/OTD92PmZtvs/w1200-h630-p-k-no-nu/captainSmith.jpg"

Driver ED

I think one of the reasons people are still fascinated by this sinking over others is that EVERYTHING went wrong. They had all the worst luck including the key to the locked binoculars closet being accidentally left behind in someone's pocket not on the ship. Then ALL the wrong decisions were made. At the end of the day it's on the captain. He had more than enough experience to know they were going too fast even if he'd never captained a liner that big.

Veronica B

I think the paintings that sank in Rose's room are much more valuable than the diamond. You got several Picasso, Degas, Monet - each painting would be worth millions.

Scarlett Monrow

1:03:55 - John Jacob Astor IV would be a billionaire in by today's standards. Unfortunately it didn't save him. He died on the Titanic, as did the family terrier dog Kitty (I'm not kidding about the dog's name). His wife got on one of the boats and survived. So this poor 17 year girl became a widow with a child on the way (it was a boy). And all because they were forced to have their honeymoon in Europe, since high society in US didn't approve of their marriage (age and status difference).

Scarlett Monrow

On the point about the unfairness of the lifeboats, here's some stats: First class passengers: 325 Survivors: 202 Second class passengers: 285 Survivors: 118 Third class passengers: 706 Survivors: 178 Some of the lifeboats weren't even full. Also a lot of people were annoyed because they thought Jack could have easily gotten onto the bit of debris with Rose. To prove a point James Cameron went into myth busters who tested this. They did everything scientifically down to the amount of time they would have been in the water, the exact size, shape and wood type of it and even the salt concentration of the water. In all the hours they tried, they could not get two people onto it because it kept sinking.

Max

Now that you've seen it, if you go back to the beginning, when the guy was talking to Rose about the necklace, you'll notice her face. She had shifty eyes when he said that no one knew where it was, or that it went down with the ship.

Anika

17:40 - "There are no survivors of the Titanic alive today. The very longest-living person to have survived the Titanic died on the 31st of May 2009. Her name was Elizabeth Gladys 'Millvina' Dean, and she was just two months old when she boarded the Titanic with her family."

Scarlett Monrow

Surprised you didn't notice the captain is Theoden, King of Rohan.

Max

I'm surprised he was allowed to board ships number 4 and 5. Captains are really superstitions people and they would not allow 3 time shipwreck survivor on their ships, just in case he attracts bad luck.

Scarlett Monrow

The theme song is sad on it's own, but when the movie came out, there was also a version, and music video with parts from the movie. And the saddest of all, was Rose saying "I'll never let go, Jack,. I'll never let go" at the end of the song.

Anika

James Cameron did extensive research for the historical accuracy of this film. The footage of the wreck was his own that he took while studying the ship. All of the names mentioned of people (save for Jack and Rose and their families) were real people. Molly Brown's house is now a museum that you can tour. You mentioned survivors guilt and trauma and apparently that was a very real aspect for those that lived. One point where the movie does change things is that the lights on the boat weren't on as long as they show and it was so dark that many survivors had no idea that the ship even split, they could only see it's outline under the stars and moon. And the survivors said witnessing it was horrible but what was worse was the silence afterwards.I also really appreciate the tact and respect given to the weight of this tragedy. I'm glad you enjoyed this movie! Gets me every time

Maggie Barbour

I think I read somewhere the guy who was looking at rose and jack (the guy who you asked if you knew him) he survived being in the water because he was drunk. 99% certain it's the right guy

Sarah

I was in school when this was playing in theaters and one of our teachers did a poll among the class who watched it the most in theater, girls and boys. For girls highest number was 11 and boys - 6. Most of the girls watched at least 4-5 times.

Scarlett Monrow

How long do I have to wait to watch something if it's telling me I have exceeded the playback?

Michelle Jackson

Most of the people rose points out to Jack in the dinner hall are actually based on real people aboard the titanic, molly brown, john jacob astor and his young wife Thomas Andrews and John Bruce ismay. The captain really did go down with his ship and the musicians did play music until the end.

Shelley

And apparently James Cameron made 12 dives to Titanic thinking the movie, and I saw him say even after the movie was finished and released he made more dives down to Titanic since as his obsessed like many of us

Kim Magee

And even knowing where the ship sank it took them 73 years to find the wreckage

Kim Magee

Wow when you look at the numbers 2240 people on board and only 706 people survived but they had enough lifeboats on various types to apparently accommodate 1176 people, so over 400 people could have been saved, but not have enough lifeboats to start with wow

Kim Magee

Apparently it's unclear whether or not Molly Brown managed to convince any Crewman to go back or not

Kim Magee

The guy in the boat at the end was the true hero. Not sure if he did exist in real life, but in the movie he was the only one who cared to come back

Dahrk Angel

The band really did play as the Titanic sank 😞

Kim Magee

As for Bill Paxton vs Bill Pullman... two little known films from both actors, but one of each's best films: Bill Paxton - Frailty Bill Pullman - Zero Effect (I think this is the greatest role he ever played)

Keith Duperreault

Molly Brown is said to be real, urging the crew to rescue more passengers sadly they didn't have anywhere near enough lifeboats and it is true that they weren't filled

Kim Magee

This was playing in Theaters the day of my 6th grade graduation that was on the room next to it. 💜 buy wasn't able to see it until 8th grade at my neighbor's house that she had on vhs. I believe it was 2 vhs cassettes 😅

Jenny Lee Villanueva

In Kate Winslet the legend now holds the record 4 an actor hi how long they can hold their breath underwater she can hold her breath for over 7 minutes beating Tom Cruise's record, she was trained for the second Avatar

Kim Magee

Before Titanic I thought Leonardo DiCaprio looked like a little boy, I didn't see the big appeal but watching Titanic I fell in love with Jack and he was so gorgeous and Romeo and Juliet as well amazing in What's Eating Gilbert Grape he has so many incredible films but what really made me really love Leo was when I got on his social media and saw nearly everything that he posts is about saving animals and the planet that we all live on his documentary series before the flood is really eye-opening an extremely interesting

Kim Magee

I watched the intro to support the channel... but as I was forced to watch this movie on repeat for a month and a half at my old Blockbuster Video job, I figure I've seen it about (2.5 times a day, multiplied by 5 days a week, multiplied by 4 weeks a month, multiplied by 1.5 months...) 75ish times.... and I won't be doing #76. Sorry, lol.

Keith Duperreault

I had read the woman who plays the old version of Rose was on the actual Titanic but I was doing some further reading and it seems that was a big lie

Kim Magee

Crazy that I didn't even notice that all this time 😱

Dahrk Angel

I love the relationship between Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet it really has been an ongoing friendship all these years and they are so cute

Kim Magee

I believe Molly was a real person on the ship.

Anika

Unfun fact, because you were wondering...Violet Jessop is most well known for having survived the sinking of both the RMS Titanic in 1912 and her sister ship the HMHS Britannic in 1916, as well as having been onboard the eldest of the three sister ships, the RMS Olympic, when it collided with the British warship HMS Hawke in 1911. Also, John Priest was one of the lucky few to survive the sinking of the Titanic only to face five more sinking ships in his lifetime. So yeah, some people do go on a boat again, and again.

PhoenixReturns

I saw this in the theaters 6 times; then waited outside of Blockbuster @ midnight to buy the 2-video VHS!!! YAY! 💚

Michele H.

Enjoyed watching it with you both

Sherry Bandito

We need to see Rob wear a wig for the next movie reaction

James

I honestly couldnt believe they didnt recognize the King of the Rohirrim

PhoenixReturns

Are you sure? His hair looks pretty fake

k4rizz4

Titanic 3: Let's Get This Party Started

k4rizz4

I had forgotten that Bernard Hill played the captain. He also played Theoden, King of Rohan in the Lord of the Rings. Now I'm looking forward to Titanic 2 The Uprising.

Bradley Weeks

Awesome! Gonna watch this for the first time with you guys :)

SamT

🙈

Take a Ticket

My FAVORITE movie of all time! 💚

Michele H.

Rob, Billy Zane wasn't bald back then, sorry to disappoint. Anyone else waiting the whole movie for them to point out that there was TONS of room for Jack on that door? You should watch The Abyss, another of Cameron's water movies. He loves the depths of the ocean.

PsYcHoKiLLa

The last scene was meant to be roses Death you guys where right, its everyone they lost in the sinking meeting rose upon her death , on the titanic 🥺 the clock behind Jack in that scene shows the same time the boat hit the water. Such a beautiful scene

Shelley

Highest grossing film of all time for 12 years... and with Trin's friends contributing that many viewings between them in the cinema, no wonder 😆

Ryan Robert Walker

Well done and congrats on 20,000 subs that's amazing!! But you can keep your ticket Rob I've not got a good feeling about that one 😅.
