First Time Watching Captain Marvel (2019) Reaction!

Comments

Part of me wonders if we had the disconnect with the friend because Carol had no connection to her, as she had no memories of their relationship? We were plonked into Captain Marvel story, just like Carol was plonked into her old life. Also I think Infinity war was over a very short period, while she is trying to save another race, I am assuming she realised something was happening when half the people started turning to dust, but then she wouldnt know what caused it?? I dont know... What i do know, is I love your reactions!!!! Cannot wait for Endgame (just saw it was loaded up and I am so excited)!!!!

Ellie Humpage

All I want to do today is watch endgame with yall, when does it drop?

Tarabee

I always feel Captain Marvel gets too much disrespect. The film probably focuses too much on the 'origin' of Nick Fury over Captain Marvel. We should see her as more human and flawed but what we get is still likeable. As for 'why didnt she show up in Infinity War' well how much time passed in that film? A Day?? If anything why did it take Thanos sooo long to get to the stones if that was achievable?! Was he even trying before?!? We know Marvel is literally saving refugees on the other side of the Universe. I imagine she faces events like Ultron on a fairly regular basis. Carol is basically a nuclear deterrent. She shows up and scares bad people but if she over-used her powers she would become a God. Which I assume she doesnt want

George Baxter

that connection u r lookng for between Carol and Maria is understandable..for the reason y she isnt in IW, remember the snap began on Earth then traverse into the universe..when Fury paged her, that snap might be simultaneously happening on her end or coming into where she is..confused about whats happening, she might tend first on whats happening on her side than picking up a distress signal from "few" galaxies away..and Fury cant just call Carol everytime there's something happening on earth..thats why Fury missioned himself to build the avengers.. actually, i think Captain Marvel was supposed to release before Infinity War originally, but many changes made throughout Phase3 like the collab with Sony for the Spiderman: Homecoming which is not in the original lineup for Phase 3..also the success of Guardians and AntMan also affects the lineup.. anyways, you are in the Endgame now..PLEASE watch the Cast Credits..its a special one..

arch. joeff

So excited for endgame! This might sound like an odd request but you should stick around during the credits of endgame, not just for the after credits scenes but the credits themselves, you'll see why😉

Locustki11er01

Great reaction as always! I got a kick out of Rob claiming “racism” about English villains while the “villain” is portrayed by an Australian. Of course, technically the villain was English, Jude Law, so Rob’s offense is justified 😆😜 I have always enjoyed this movie and it is a top ten MCU film for me. It is always a fun one to rewatch and like so many other MCU installments the more into the Marvel universe we go the more this movie becomes important. There is a lot set up in this movie. As far as Carol being super OP… I only knew one story that involved Carol Danvers prior to her MCU debut. I assure you, there is always a more OP character out there and if all goes well we will hopefully meet that character in the coming years. No spoilers, nothing has been confirmed or even announced by Marvel, but my fangirl heart is hopeful 💚💛💚💛

FYI the original Nick Fury was in a WWII comic book called Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos (you saw the Howling Commandos in Captain America, they were the group of soldiers who joined him on missions). He was a sergeant who lost his eye due to a grenade blast. Later he had another series called Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. No cats, no flerkins.

Lazerx1

I can’t tell you two how much I enjoy watching these entire episodes with you.

Paul Smith

Higher, further, faster, baby!

Octavia

Oh, also, DC and Marvel have a lot of characters which are very similar. Deathstroke (Slade Wilson)/Deadpool (Wade Wilson)... So when you say she's like supergirl, you're spot on. Captain Marvel's alter Ego is Carol Danvers, while Supergirl's is Kara Danvers. I'm sure there are many more but I am not much of a comic book reader, mostly just enjoy the comic book movies.

J Scott Page

Would love you to consider Agents of Shield as a TV show to watch. As for the music in this movie, It's near up there with Guardians, maybe not quite as high, but it's pretty great.

J Scott Page

@Anthony Thompson Jr. These are literally all spoilers and things they can find out themselves and would enjoy more if you'd let them find out themselves. Please respect their wish and either edit or delete this.

MSephiroth

Had to laugh at Rob saying "So disrespectful and racist, make the English guy the bad one" Ben Mendelsohn's an Aussie :D Radioshack filed for bankruptcy in February 2015 but apparently they're "back", they have a website anyway. 32:37 A little Easter Egg for geeks, Mallrats was Stan Lee's first ever movie role, made by Kevin Smith who I'm a big fan of, Stan does say the "True Believers" line, it was one he used a lot in his editors' letters in the comics. Kevin was like a son to Stan. (Stan's words, not mine)

PsYcHoKiLLa

And one more thing 😂 why I love Carol Danvers more then any other characters, even Steve Rogers, is that moment, when she undoubtedly shot that engine. She didn't knew that the explosion will give her powers. Only thing she could 100% be sure was, that explosion will turn her into dust as she was standing in 2 feet. And she could, at least try bargain for her life, but instead she chose to do what she did, and for me, that is true heroism, free willingly sacrifice yourself for people you even do not know but you believe in your friend and what he/she do. That's enough for me to be satisfied by movie. Will not say anything about - Get up every time you fall... Man, I need rewatch this movie, buy

Count Monte-Cristo

So in case you guys didn´t notice, this is the first Marvel Female Lead Movie in the MCU, so even if it wasn´t the best movie in general in my opinion, Captain Marvel does a great job showing how powerful woman can be and I love her for it!

Bassorelli Chiara

And one more thing, there are so many little details in this movie that ties up all previously seen movies. It works for me just because of that. Guardians events happened many years after this

Dude

Time between everyone being dusted and after credit scene when Cap. Marvel showed up is probably not that long. And probably same was going there, where she was and we only know Nik Fury but probably there were other beings who needed her help, who were as much important for her as Nik for example, we don't know that at this moment. And galaxy is far more big, so, I think everything makes sense... Also, she said: emergency only. Seeing people turning into dust, that's when you decide to call to Cap. Marvel.

Dude

endgame is next we are excited 😮😮😮😮😮

Kesa

This was my first time seeing this movie and it honestly was better then i was expecting it to be.

Shabaqo

It is answered pretty well in Endgame why you never saw her, and why Fury never tells the Avengers about her. The timing is much more relevant when you watch Wandavision and Ms. Marvel as shows too. You can't have an OP'd hero arrive and expect their to be conflict at the level - certain Avengers - must face to become who they are and what there needs are. Plus... they didn't have a Daniels' picked into Phase 2 and they pushed this movie afterwards because there are too many interconnections that would make the other movies less interesting.

Anthony Almandeto

Jude said, 'Nice diversion' and ran off lol

PhoenixReturns

Yeah not my favorite, but I did enjoy it!! One of my favorite things about this movie is the soundtrack. And her power is super insane, so it was fun to see.

Julia Ashley

We're in the ENDGAME NOW!

NYStreetPunisher

That tshirt is awesome 👌🏼

Shelley

I'm wondering that too as there is still more films after, as it's not spoiling anything as rob mentioned seeing wakanda forever etc

Kim Magee

In Winter Soldier, when he takes his patch off, you can see the scratch marks from Gooses claws

Mel Issa

Why in the world would you skip any MCU film?

MotoDork

Goose needs his own movie. Love Captain Marvel... and really enjoy the way they unfolded her origin story. For me it's no more jarring than Thor or Dr. Strange, etc... as we never saw much of their lives before we were introduced to them either. It was a cool way to handle her entry into the mcu... while also giving us early days Fury and Coulson... and tying it into Fury's Infinity War emergency pager. She's too powerful to introduce sooner. Not to mention... it literally took this long before the studio would venture to do a standalone movie for a female superhero. Black Widow really should've been first, but it was just a pleasure to finally get one. I've watched it several times, and enjoy it more and more. Especially appreciate the switch in perspective on who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. And the '90s nostalgia. Much fun. Now... let's go, Endgame!

Wendy Sparks

I like the release order for this movie. If the movie was released before infinity war, the reaction for infinity war would have been "where is captain marvel" and "call captain marvel" every 5 minutes and that would have been very annoying to hear that over and over again.

Tom Gerhardt

Carol was across the galaxy, perhaps in a different galaxy, so she didn't know about anything happening on Earth. Half the universe disappears, but she wouldn't know why, being somewhere else.

Thadman

Also, I'm sure you'll see this when you edit, but you thought there were two Yar-Rogg (is that his name? Jude Law), but there weren't. He was fighting Carol on the ship, he ran out to catch the escaping ship and she started to run after him, but two of the other Kree guys jumped her and she started fighting them. Heh, so from that point, you were coming up with theories of Skrulls impersonating him. I kept saying, "This IS no other one!" xD

Thadman

The Marvel Universe is very big and diverse. Many people will see a new character (and there are MANY more that haven't been introduced yet) and think that they are OP. Many people said Thor was when he first came on the scene, but that was because we'd never seen anyone that powerful before. Then the more you see of the universe, you see there are things much more powerful. (*ahem*) Thanos. It's a good rule to keep in mind, "There's always a bigger fish." Superman seems OP because he's on Earth and there's no one or nothing here that can stand up to him (conventionally, but there are loopholes: kryptonite, magic, etc.), but there are things out there that are more powerful than him. Same with Captain Marvel. Now she is the most powerful being we've seen...at this point. There are beings in Marvel comics that are much more powerful, but we haven't met them at this point. The galaxy, let alone the universe, is vast. I appreciate they tried a different way of telling the story (at this point, they were getting criticized that all their origin stories were similar), but I think it threw a lot of people off because of the order of how things play out. It didn't have as strong an effect on me since I knew a bit more about the character beforehand and guessed, from the trailer, that the Kree were lying to her, making her think she was one of them. Even so, I think the way this was told (and I do like it, especially on repeat viewings) made it harder for people to connect to her since we were learning about her as she was re-learning. The point was to put the audience in the same mode as the main character, confused, but when viewers are confused, they tend to get...annoyed. That's why I feel it comes off better on repeat viewings. No confusion to cloud the characterization.

Thadman

Everytime I watch this movie, I love it more and more. Carol is great, love her relationship with Fury, love Talos, Goose and Maria and Monica, this is just a fun rewatch. Definitely get the feelings of it being rushed, or having less connection which is cool. Still, very excited for Endgame now!

ENDGAME! LET’S GO!!! 😎

V

I think the fact that it was dumb was great. It creates a reason for him to not want to share how he lost it, which lets for people's imaginations to run wild with theories on how he lost it. Makes sense to me.

Leah B

Def one of my least favorites but I'm eager to see you guys react to it nonetheless.

Don't Take This Seriously

I'll never forgive this movie for giving us the dumbest possible explanation for Fury losing his eye.

Joshua Markham

This movie was one of the few Marvel movies I haven't seen yet. A lot of criticisms were similar to what Rob mentioned that we as the fans would have wanted more of a "real origin story" to feel attached to the characters, so I skipped out on it (not to mention this movie fails the "show don't tell" rule a lot). But with a new Marvel show coming out soon, I'm surprised to enjoy this movie with everything I know about MCU *now*. I enjoyed watching with y'all, good watch :)

Jose Zamora Orellana

Shield had the Tesseract, recovered from the ocean by Stark's dad after WW2, mentioned in a previous film. Lawson needed to perform her experiment here on Earth with the light speed engine because it's based on the Tesseract energy signature.... so Carol is ridiculously powerful because she has basically been infused with the power of the Space Stone. I love how it all ties together.

Keith Duperreault

Woooo! Had been waiting on this one! To your comments about it feeling jarring re: order in the franchise — some context on that is this was Marvel’s first ever standalone female superhero movie. It’s been said that that played heavily into why it came so late to the big screen when yes, it really should’ve been sooner but the opportunities for women just weren’t there until literally 2019. I’m just happy we actually got the movie! The cultural impact was insane too (watch M-Power on Disney+ some day and you’ll see why!) much like the reach of Black Panther as the first Black lead in a superhero Marvel film. Looking forward to the YouTube cut!!!! Thanks as always for your content 👌🏼

Kia Street

so after the next movie are we going to be diving it to the marvel tv shows too?

Papi Dillion

Fury said in Captain America: The Winter Soldier that the last time he trusted someone he lost his eye

WalkingTaako

Radio Shack is definitely and sadly gone, which is why it's used as a reference to the past in this movie.

JD Nevesytrof

The stone inside the Tesseract is the Space Stone not the Power stone

Kevin Przy

Like this one, but excited it's done, bring on end game 😀

Kim Magee

It's OK we aren't offended lol

Kim Magee

One of the favorites of mine. Can't wait to watch the reaction 🥰

Count Monte-Cristo

ben mendelsohn is australian so its racist to aussies not us brits lol

mark wass

I love this movie! Can't wait to watch the reaction!

RPGsus Plays

I predict Rob will love the younger fury, 90s callbacks and the cat
