Ofelia being reunited with her father having been bitten is not a happy ending either way...so I think they should've been able to say their goodbyes.

If you’re really serious about expecting a happily ever after ending then maybe a romcom is more your flavor… These type of devastating scenarios make for good storylines. The plot is a zombie apocalypse where people are usually a bigger threat than the walkers, we can probably all assume that a happy ending is a rare commodity ;)
