FIRST TIME WATCHING Independence Day (1996) Reaction!

Comments

Just so you know a president can only serve up to two full terms. It's law.

Adam Martin

Yes! It was a cool movie as a whole.

John Borek

Resurgence is aweful

Wayneppanic

i hope you are also going to watch Independence Day: Resurgence :)

Behrad

Finally had a chance to watch this one and loved your reactions. I saw it in the theater on July 4th and when the President made his speech, everyone in the theater cheered. Still one of the greatest speeches in my opinion.

Piper

Late to the party on this one, but the president’s now iconic speech was, (according to the director and producer,) “written in about 5 minutes” and was only meant to be a placeholder! Pullman’s delivery convinced them no additional draft was needed! 😎 (It was inspired by the St. Crispin’s Day speech from Shakespeare’s Henry V. 🤓)

V

Yes! 70’s, 80’s & 90’s. 3 months. Would be great for the summer….🤞😋

Simon Williams

the father of jeff goldblum(sp?) is judd hirsch..(sp?) who played in taxi in the 70's and early 80's if i remember right. with christopher loyd

Khat

Such a fun movie. Classic summer blockbuster. I remember watching it in the theaters. The scene where they blew up the White House, someone shouted out, "I hope Clinton was in there!" The whole theater just died laughing. Sure it has its flaws and cheesy one-liners. But that's part of the charm of it. It doesn't take itself too seriously even if it has heavy moments. This was the film that rocketed Will Smith into superstardom. I think he had done a few smaller films, plus Fresh Prince of Bel-Air of course. But this made him a bona fide action hero. Also keep Chris Rock's name out yo mouth! LOL!

Marty McGee

lmao if it's an alien computer everything would be different

Kevin Przy

There are a lot of people from other Science Fiction franchises in this movie, some of them include: Mary McDonnell (BSG), Bill Pullman (Spaceballs), Brent Spiner (Star Trek TNG), Robert Loggia (Freespace 2), Adam Baldwin (Firefly), Jay Acovone (Stargate SG-1)

Superpotroast

It's a completely alien type of technology though.... None of the ship systems at Area 51 have been active until the aliens showed up literally the night before. The time it would take to study their tech, deconstruct how it functions, and then write a virus that functioned, and communicated, between both machines - even if it was possible at all - would realistically take months or years. They did it in a few hours, LOL. Not to mention the only sample of tech they have is the ship system at Area 51..... sure the virus shuts down the shield on that ship, but how do they know the 'computer' systems on the mother ship function the same and will shut down the shields on the ships hovering above the cities below. That's a massive assumption based on zero experience. Yeah it's an alien invasion movie... suspension of disbelief and all that, but it kinda stretched belief waaaaaaay too thin for my taste.

Keith Duperreault

A truly terrible sequel that tried to coast off the success of this epic movie… it fits too well into the saying ‘just because you could, doesn’t mean you should’

Harriet Harvey

Its not hard someone to put a virus on someones computer. Thats why there is virus blockers for those.

Amanda Hymans

Not my favorite Alien Invasion type movie.... I had serious problems with them being able to upload a computer virus into an alien ship system. LOL.... that just strikes me as written by people who have never used a computer. I much rather prefer a movie like 'Battle: Los Angeles' or the amazing tv series 'Colony' (with Sawyer from Lost)

Keith Duperreault

I still laugh at it. Great reference to HAL and Dave from 2001!

BadCode

The presidents speech always gives me goosebumps when I hear it, it’s is also a shame that it will most likely take this level of threat to unite mankind

Richard Ortega

Yes, it's awful.

Scarlett Monrow

There was a second one?

Kim Magee

They should do decade's lol

Kim Magee

They would love 2 socks

Kim Magee

So, I just finished watching, great reaction, thanks you! P.S. Avoid the sequel. As much as the first one is good, the second one is bad.

Scarlett Monrow

1:54:51 - I watched it in theater and at "Good morning Dave" everyone laughed. So many viewers don't get the joke today...Do you know where it's from?

Scarlett Monrow

You should do a poll sometime just for 90’s movies

Simon Williams

If you haven't seen Dances with Wolves, I highly recommend it. Mary McDonnel is amazing in it.

Bradley Weeks

You guys are the best! I appreciate the effort you make to keep to a schedule. It has not gone unnoticed. Thank you ❤️

TDWander

Judd Hirsch as probably mentioned somewhere above was Jeff Goldblum's father and was popular in the '70s Sitcom Taxi. I saw this movie in Imax at the theater. It was a fantastic experience. I am glad you both got to enjoy this treasure of a film.

Anthony Ancona

1:50:36 - the most epic speech in movies!

Scarlett Monrow

1:45:30 - that's not French, that's Russian (with bad accent)

Scarlett Monrow

Jurassic Park was 1993. I saw it in the theater, and I remember being astounded with jaw dropped for the scene when the T Rex was chasing the jeep. It really was groundbreaking at the time.

Linda Cannarsa

In extended version, they explain that modern computers were reverse engineered from the computers on the crashed ship. So the idea of cracking an alien military computer system with a 90s laptop becomes less ridiculous.

Scarlett Monrow

I see a few people have already mentioned Dances With Wolves, and I will add my enthusiastic recommendation. A little surprised if you haven’t yet seen it.

Linda Cannarsa

I forgot how fun this movie is! "Almost put a hex on the whole damn thing" cracks me up every time!

Carrie Petty

Do you realize, Rob, that when you try to do an American accent, you do Negan? It's funny how great you do it, but kinda disturbing, too. lol I haven't see this movie in years. It was nice to see it again with guys. Best president's speech ever!

angie808

Well, when you are making movie with alien tech running on Haskell, you should put Jean-Claude Van Damme in it too, because, you know, those two are universal in whole universe. This movie was like - Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.

Dude

This was an awesome watch .. hard to believe almost 30 years ago. I saw this in the theater but I really enjoyed watching with you guys much more ❤️ Love you both you make me laugh and cry 💕

Dawn

YES! Thank you 🥰

Well, you just made my Sunday! And I still have "Passengers" to watch! Yay!

Scarlett Monrow

This is moment that Will Smith went from being The Fresh Prince, to being the biggest movie star in the world!!!

MYF TransportLLC

I loved the little variances in the lines the actors choose. Like when Jeff goldblum says the line in the space ship... " must go faster" he said that line in jurassic park when they were driving from the trex. And will Smith when he gets married chose to say I Will instead of I do, because it's his name. He did it at his wedding in real life too. Hahahaha I have always said whenever our country and world fights with one another how badly we need an alien invasion to unite this world. Lol

Yep. Totally, regular people, you two. 🙄😂 Happy to hear Trin has power back. Have a great weekend everyone!

GoodDocGonzo

You know Jeff Goldblum father from Big Bang Theory as Leonard's Dad

Kim Magee

I remember seeing this in the theater on July 3 I think it was opening da,. & it was packed. It was so good and I am never bothered by a little cheese in a movie. Judd Hirsch was Jeff Goldblums dad. He was in the sitcom Taxi which is one of my all time favs. He has done a lot of movies also. The one who played Will Smiths Marine friend who died was Harry Connick Jr. love him. I knew you would recognize Jayne. So glad you surprised of with this I thought for sure it would be Thursday. This was one of my picks so I am glad you got to watch it.

Margaret

If you really enjoyed this I think you would love Tom Cruise's War of the Worlds

Kim Magee

If no one has mentioned it yet the president's wife was also in Dances with Wolves she played stands with fists if you have watched it

Kim Magee

NICE! ❤️

It's first time watching for me too

Dude

Nellis is the Air Force Base near Las Vegas

Sasanak

Never really watched Star Trek so chances were low for us haha

Take a Ticket

Quite disappointed you didn't recognise Data from Star Trek as the scientist in AREA 51. The guy you did recognise right before (Jane) was also in X-Files, something you really should watch if you never have. If you really like Mary McDonnell (The President's wife), you should watch Dances with Wolves, she's excellent in that.

PsYcHoKiLLa

Nah I'm passing on this one

Geniousatqw (The Quantum Wiccan)

Saw this in the theater, what a rush. Still holds up. Pure fun, but also a lot of spirit. Movie-making today could learn a thing or two. #1- don't kill the dog. #2 - Don't bet against Jeff Goldblum. #3 - try to top that rousing speech. Great watch.

BadCode

I was 14 when this film came out and I absolutely loved it; it may come across as cheesy now, but it’s just 100% pure entertainment. The Independence Day speech is well written, but Bill Pullman’s delivery is what really sells it. So good. And look, here’s Laura Roslin making Rob tear up for the umpteenth time! Thanks guys, this was super fun!

Laura Dawson

I grew up playing Lylat Wars (Star Fox 64) on the N64 and it had an awesome Independence day inspired level which was my favorite in the game. Much nostalgia with this one for me ^^

PhoenixReturns

So glad Trin made it for this one!

Eric Gauthier

I remember seeing this at the cinema when it first came out. I was pretty young and it was one of my first big moviegoing experiences. I'd never seen anything like it, much less on the big screen.

Ugly Pig

I know what I will be doing as soon as I get home from work, great movie, if a little cheesy at times
