FIRST TIME WATCHING: The Last Of Us S1E09 - Look For The Light

I keep hearing people being upset that the Fireflies didn't give her a choice. And how would that go? "Ellie, we can put together a cure but that means killing you. Do you want to give your life for humanity?" "Fuck no! I wanna go home!" "Alright then, go on your way." :)) Seriously? There was no choice! People were brutally killed every day for the past 20 years, because they lived in this broken world. No life is more important than other millions. On the other hand, Joel's choice was also a no-brainer. His world ended back when Sarah died. He never cared about changing or saving this world. This world, the people, took his daughter away from him, not the infected, soo why the fk would he sacrifice another daughter to save humanity? He would see everyone burn before hurting Ellie, and I'm on board with him! It's all a matter of perspective.

Ellie didn't think she'd have to die for the cure. She told Joel she would follow him wherever he went, after it was done. So she clearly didn't think she'd have to give her life for humanity. She might have done it, but Marlene & the doctor basically made up her mind for her. That's just not right. As a parent, I can tell you that I absolutely understand Joel's rage killing. Well, actually, it looked more like "mindless" killing. He was in a zone, and probably saw red the whole time until he saw Ellie. People can say all they like that she wasn't his child, but she was symbolically adopted by him; eventually loving her like his own. So, yah, she was his child. I had to stew awhile on this ending, and came to grips with what Joel did. I approve. Lies and all. And who knows, there could be a cure being developed by someone else's sacrifice. And who's to say; the doctor - after killing Ellie - might not have been able to create any type of serum for the cure. Now that would have been a waste.

"Why wouldn't either of them ask her if they cared for her?" I'd say both thought they "knew" what Ellie would choose but neither of them would have the courage to risk it. They were safer making the decision for her. Both Joel and Marlene selflishly told themselves that they know what she would choose, just to bury their guilt.

The best thing about this series was what the game did not answer or develop, like the origin of the fungus and how it spread, the story of Bill and Frank, Joel's suicide attempt, the conversation between Tommy and Joel etc. The series is good, but in my opinion the game is still superior.

Yeah I agree, very rushed

The only wrong thing was not giving Ellie a choice.. which neither did.

It's not a zombie show. It's about the people.. just like the game was. Amazing adaptation.

As a finale pretty average. Kinda reminded me series finale of certain show i dont wanna mention just for spoilers. Rushed and rushed... thats all what i got from this finale. We got few dialogues between Joel/Ellie...then seconds after they are captured. Seconds later Joel cleared whole "Hospital" or whatever it was and it was over like nothing even happened. For me this wasnt finale worthy episode maybe because i havent played TLOU But not even this episode but it is visible this is game adaptation. Everything is rushed and not only this episode. Its like they moved 2-3 months every episode and in every episode was rushed just so they can fit everything into episode. Minimal infected interactions even tho its "zombie" show Season 1 for me 6,5/10

β€œLosing her by lying!” Yup, that’s why I loved the ending so much in the game and in the show. Joel LIED to Ellie. Simple as that.

ayy a new mic Rob?

Even in an apocalyptic world, I hate that David took Ellie's "innocence" and spark. I know that she stopped him, but it will always live with her and haunt her. And then the one person she trusts lied to her. I understand where Joel was coming from, but that was another thing she didn't have control over. Bella deserves all the awards for her work this season.

Fully satisfied with the show..... but... I really wish it would have been another 5 or 6 episodes longer, stretched out to include more content with the infected. The scenes we got with them were awesome... but really, it was only Episode 2, & 5. I get it.... the story was more than just the infected, but you get so much more content vs them in the game as you are sneaking past, killing them, and getting more lore in the process. I feel condensing The Infected into two episodes really lost a little bit of the story for me in the translation from game to screen.

I'm having a hard time digesting this episode. I feel so conflicted for Joel. I don't know if he was right or wrong. Should he have been honest? I feel that by saving her he loses her by lying to her. It's heartbreaking either way. That's brilliant writing right there. This is one of the best shows I have ever seen.
