FIRST TIME WATCHING The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) Reaction!

Comments

Ok now I need to go back and read it for the first 10+ time

Cali_Lakergrl

Yes that's true, but I think Peeta also did it HOPING Katniss would see it. That's why he specifically pick Rue and specifically drew her how he did. It was definitely aimed at Katniss too. He knew she had to go into that room as well, so it's not like he had no way of knowing whether she'd see it. She definitely would unless the gamemakers could erase it. It may have been to poss of the gamemakers, but it was also aimed at Katniss.

Terri

In the book, Katniss wonders why it's taking so long for her to get into the room for her demonstration for the game makers. It turns out they had to bring a crew in to erase the picture Peeta had painted of Rue. He had no way of knowing whether or not Katniss would see it, so he wouldn't have been doing it specifically to upset her. Like Katniss's own performance, he did it to piss off the game makers. It was a mistake for the movie to present this scene as they did. The game makers would not have wanted Katniss to see Peeta's act of rebellion. Letting her see it, as they did in the movie, only strengthened her anti-Capital feelings.

Craig Rairdin

Slight correction: Jabberjays were the genetically engineered birds that could remember and reproduce whole conversations. The Capital used them as spies. They were abandoned when the districts realized they could feed them false information and they would dutifully carry it back to the Capital. Over time, jabberjays (which were all male, for what it's worth) mated with mockingbirds in the wild to produce mockingjays, which couldn't imitate speech but could imitate melodies.

Craig Rairdin

I agree with Haymitch that the resistance / rebellion couldn't let Katniss in on the plan. She may be the hope and the symbol, but she's too disagreeable and has no poker face. Her not knowing kept the break out from being suspected until it was too late. Mad respect for the 12 other victors who were secretly allied to protect Katniss at all costs. (As well as Peeta... because Katniss needs him.) Willing to lay down their lives for them. Love Johanna, love Finnick. (Now they really knew how to pull off the act.) Raising 3 finger salute for Mags and Wiress.

Wendy Sparks

The MockingJay became a symbol because of Catniss, the whistle was also because of her and Rue. The 3 finger saulte was around before her however, it's a symbol of thanks and admiration but became a way for others to show solidarity. That's my understanding anyway, I've not read the books so could be more/different info there. Really enjoying these reactions, looking forward to the next two movies!

Elle

I was hoping you were going to carry on with the trilogy and I’m glad you’ve met Finnick my favourite character in the trilogy

Callum ledger

So happy you posted this so soon after! Rob, I was the same as you during the whole movie!

Bri Gioia

Green is my favorite color, too!! lol

Julia Ashley

Also in the books at least katniss was exposed to water. That's why she considered herself a decent swimmer. Her dad would take her to the lake sometimes when they were hunting. I think it was supposed to be the same area they started that first shot in the movie.

Angelina Sargent

I always felt like the Seneca crane dummy hanging wasn't a threat to the game makers... it always seemed like it was a warning to them about what could happen to them even if they do their job "well enough". I don't know how I missed that it was her threatening them! Haha

Angelina Sargent

When I watch the walking dead I have the mantra "when Daryl cries, we all cry" Now it's spreading to films "when rob and trin cry, we all cry"

Just because we think John wick 2 is great, doesn't mean there isn't more exciting options

Kim Magee

Hahaha I love this comment because I watch/listen to all these reactions on my way to work too!!! I thought I was alone in that!

Angelina Sargent

Definitely read the books! They are fantastic!

GeekMom

Watched it again, tonight, because watching it on my phone the first time, going to work, wasn't good enough. lol I guess you already figured out that the reason why they clean up the bodies after they get killed is so that nobody who finds the body can have an advantage of any gifts or weapons the person might have on them. Except, if they are right there when they died, or killed them themselves. Also, now you know why Plutarch stopped the cornucopia island from spinning after Katniss went in the water. Can't have the MockingJay dying. 😊 Also, he disappeared from the control room after everything went down. Did you see Finnick's face after he saved Peeta's life, and Katniss was freaking out. He realized that Katniss really did have feelings for Peeta. It wasn't ALL an act. And, OH....Where's Peeta?! πŸ₯° So good. Thanks, again. RIP Mags & Wiress.

angie808

A shout out to the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman who played game master Plutarch Heavensbee; one of the finest actors of his generation. RIP

I got to see this right as it dropped. I couldn't sleep last night as I sometimes have insomnia. I guess I felt a tremor in the force...Trin doing her best Turkey Call. That and Rob nearly having a heart attack over hearing the color green mentioned in the movie. I nearly died laughing until Rob and Trin threw shade at my favorite color. Lol. It was a real treat to get a extra movie reaction! Thank you both for a nice surprise! May the odds be ever in your favor.

Anthony Ancona

I read the hunger games book yesterday for the first time in years, I'm halfway through book 2 when I noticed your reaction was posted. What I wanted was to finish the book before your watch, but I just can't resist!

Ekk

Thank you, Terri! After the movies I may have to look into the books ❀️

Peeta purposefully drew Rue to upset Katniss. To make her angry enough to provoke a reaction in front of the gamekeepers. Otherwise, Katniss usually tended to hide her reactions unless she's provoked like that. That's why we see him leave and give her a significant look on his way out. Remember, from the first movie, it's important that they show them what they can do during that skill portion. However, they already knew this time around. So it was more of a threat. Also, when she painted the dummy, it was to look like Senaca Crane. The previous gamekeeper. She was essentially saying that SHE killed him. She outsmarted him to the point that he had to eat the berries. So she was provoking the gamekeepers. Essentially telling them that SHE was going to come for them next and she'd outsmart them too. The salute that they do throughout the movie has different meanings to them. This is what it says in book one: "almost every member of the crowd touches the three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and holds it out to me. It is an old and rarely used gesture of our district, occasionally seen at funerals. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means good-bye to someone you love." However, about half way though, it changes to be another symbol of the revolution. It's basically the people saying that they stand with, and respect Katniss...not the capital and Snow. Also, notice that Finnick did CPR to save Peeta while Katniss just sat there and screamed. Now, normally, Katniss would be level headed and strong. However, this reaction from them is due to the districts they were raised in. The books have A LOT more information and significance with the districts they are from. So, Finnick is from a fishing district. He lives by the water. So they know about CPR. It's also why he carries the trident. Katniss has never been exposed to water and her district probably didn't have as much need to learn or understand about CPR. As you can see from the way they travel, people stick to their own districts so they develop independently. There are SO many details from the books that you might not pick up on in the movies. If you have an interest, consider reading the books. It's a more detailed world and give so much more context to the story.

Terri

Also that kiss on the beach was one that Katniss really meant & it did come from a genuine place of love & desire. The book made me shed a small tear. β€œPeeta and I sit on the damp sand, facing away from each other, my right shoulder and hip pressed against his. After a while I rest my head against his shoulder. Feel his hand caress my hair. "Katniss... If you die, and I live, there's no life for me at all back in District Twelve. You're my whole life", he says. "I would never be happy again." I start to object but he puts a finger to my lips. "It's different for you. I'm not sayin it wouldn't be hard. But there are other people who'd make your life worth living. Your family needs you, Katniss", Peeta says. My family. My mother. My sister. And my pretend cousin Gale. But Peeta's intension is clear. That Gale really is my family, or will be one day, if I live. That I'll marry him. So Peeta's giving me his life and Gale at the same time. To let me know I shouldn't ever have doubts about it. Everything. That's what Peeta wants me to take from him. "No one really needs me", he says, and there's no self-pity in his voice. It's true his family doesen't need him. They will mourn him, as will a handful of friends. But they will get on. Even Haymitch, with the help of a lot of white liquor, will get on. I realize only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me. "I do", I say. "I need you." He looks upset, takes a deep breath as if to begin a long argument, and that's no good, no good at all, because he'll start going on about Prim and my mother and everything and I'll just get confused. So before he can talk, I stop his lips with a kiss. I feel that thing again. The thing I only felt once before. In the cave last year, when I was trying to get Haymitch to send us food. I kissed Peeta about a thousand times during those Games and after. But there was only one kiss that made me feel something stir deep inside. Only one that made me want more. But my head wound started bleeding and he made me lie down. This time, there is nothing but us to interrupt us. And after a few attempts, Peeta gives up on talking. The sensation inside me grows warmer and spreads out from my chest, down through my body, out along my arms and legs, to the tips of my being. Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect, of making my need greater. I thought I was something of an expert on hunger, but this is an entirely new kind.”

Chael

Mockingjays were failed Capitol scientist hybrid experiments & then they tried to just destroy them all but the breed persisted & survived becoming just as common in the world as other birds so they were kind of a symbol of survival against the odds & then when Katniss wore it in the Games it just made sense to associate her with that symbol of survival.

Chael

0:32:30 - when Snow took that golden drink, the liquid flowed back into the glass and it was red as blood. He was bleeding heavily from his mouth and maybe lungs.

Scarlett Monrow

Whaaat? I just woke up. It is not Sunday right? Usually it's Sunday for me when Rob & Trin drop first movie of weekend. I hope it's still Friday evening

Dude

I can’t wait for the next one thank you for doing the second one so soon I wasn’t expecting it already

James

This is the best surprise ever, itΒ΄s one of my favorites! Peeta did draw the Rue paint in the floor but it was mostly to upset the gamemakers. I love that you guys catched that everyone was constantly saving Katniss and Peeta throught the movie, it was about Katniss but everyone knew that she would never contribute if Peeta died. And a couple of facts from the books: The capitol started to retrieve the bodies long ago because in one of the past games a tribute started to eat the dead tributes and it was too much for TV, so now they grab the bodies, and also the three fingers up was already a thing that meant thanks, admiration or goodbye. And about the last conversation, the mockingjay was not a thing before, Katniss became a figure to the revolution and they associated her to the mockingjay, so it became a symbol.

Bassorelli Chiara
