Better Call Saul: S2E09 Nailed - First time watching!

It might've started with Jimmy, but the point is Chuck being the older brother never bothered to giv him a chance when Jimmy tried to change. Why? Because by Chuck's logic, "people never change". All Chuck had to do was be Jimmy's friend and a mentor to him. I guess it was far easier to stay resentful, be judgemental and ashamed of him instead of forgiving and encouraging him to be a better person/lawyer. IMO I think Chuck preferred it that way. When Jimmy went straight and was working in the mail room and became a lawyer to impress his older brother, Chuck never gave Jimmy forgiveness or trust, even though Jimmy stood by him when he lived in his delusion of being allergic to electricity.ย  Point is Chuck never made an effort to support his brother because he never believed in him. As a lawyer, Jimmy began spiralling out of control the moment he found out his own brother sabotaged/betrayed him and when Chuck confessed his true feelings to him regarding how he felt about Jimmy as a lawyer and "people never change" dialogue.

Yeah, those are good points, I hadn't really thought about it that way

As someone who identifies as Sith, I am enjoying the feud between Jimmy and Chuck. It just warms my heart..lol. I am loving this show, so many twists and turns.

Jimmy stole money from his parents, but not the amount Chuck alluded to, certainly not. From everything we know, Jimmy's father gave untold amounts of money away to people in need (and grifters), along with probably food and supplies when they needed it too. A lot of the money that chuck found missing would have been money that their father just...gave away over the years. Chuck, however, would not and could not accept that. He put it all on Jimmy because it was the "obvious answer" and because Chuck never trusted or accepted Jimmy. I guess, Debating whether this actually affected the business as Chuck claims is pointless. It was their fatherโ€™s job to keep Jimmy (and everyone else) from pulling one over on him and Chuck is falsely blaming Jimmy for their fatherโ€™s weakness/naivete. Chuck might've been right about Jimmy's flaws but all for the wrong reasons. Not because he cared about his brother. Chuck's clearly disdainful, bitter, resentful, and jealous of Jimmy!! Instead of encouraging and mentoring his younger brother who looks up to him, he sabotages him behind his back and keeps him down, probably for all the attention Jimmy received from their parents and all the attention he's currently getting that Chuck doesn't get(including Chuck's ex). At the end of the day, BOTH brothers have flaws but the only diff between the two is Jimmy at least really loved his brother and demonstrated it while Chuck clearly doesn't.

i love chuck i love jimmy iโ€™m torn and always will be

Jimmy's shady past is not in question, but by that logic no one can ever turn their life around. Jimmy was trying to do just that, and Chuck has been sabotaging him for his own selfish reasons.

Ugly Pig

It did start with Jimmy though, and with the cash machine thingy in his dads shop. Then their dad died, Chuck started resenting Jimmy, and it all got into a spiral, but it did start with Jimmy as far as I can tell

lindelofstan

I think you're forgetting just how long Chuck has been sabotaging him, and how hard Jimmy worked to turn his life around.

Ugly Pig

He was trying to change, but it also never seemed like he could have, even with the full support of Chuck. Lets not forget Jimmy started on this path way before Chuck's influence led him in that direction, and IMO no matter what his environment is, he always would have returned to his old ways eventually

lindelofstan

The thing is, though, Jimmy was trying to change for the better - he only gave that up because Chuck fucked him over. So sure, Chuck was "right" about where Jimmy would end up... but he played a big part in setting him on that path. He doesn't deserve credit for a self fulfilling prophecy.

Actually after watching rob and trin mirrored a lot of my thoughts! Re mike in BrBa, at one point the Cartel take over one of Gus' chemical warehouses and Mike goes in and takes about 8 people out with a silenced pistol like a bad ass, He kills a bunch at the Cartel mansion too later when Gus poisons em all, as well as planning to execute Walt at the super lab and planning on killing Jesse, he seemed to have few moral qualms killing people, at least those 'in the game' if told to. Also when they plan to rob the train in final season he warns that they should kill the innocent train drivers to avoid leaving a witness, clearly not happy to but seemingly prepared to before jesse has idea of doing it without anyone knowing. Mike definitely changed from where he is right now.

Yeah people tend to forget watching this that the person Chuck thinks lowly of ends up in business with a meth kingpin ๐Ÿ˜€ natural to defend him tho since he's a loveable scamp but yeah its hard to argue with chuck's outlook. Question is tho i guess, if Jimmy got more love and support from Chuck, got that job back when he passed the bar, and Chuck wasn't so jealous and judgemental, and a bit more emotionally supportive, would it have been different? Is it less of a case of being right but Chuck making a self fulfilling prophecy based on how he's always treated Jimmy. That's the genius of this show, two sides to everything

lemmy101

I know you guys enjoy seeing Chuck's struggles (kinda understandably), but he is absolutely right about Jimmy's future. Jimmy turns into everything that he predicted (as we see in BB). If he wasn't the protagonist of this show, we would hate him. The only reason we don't is that he is the "hero" of the story, and is entertaining.
