"most scientifically accurate film ever made" - please! As I said, I don't have a problem with their travels, but I do have a big problem with the reason why they traveled. You might want to read "20,000 leagues under the sea" by Jules Vern or "Underwater Farmers" by Belayev. Also, do some simple calculation of how much water is in the oceans and how much pure oxygen can be made from it. Also, check out movie "Aliens" - they showed a way of dealing with bad atmosphere on the planet. The plot of Interstellar is ridiculous and sloppy. Maybe instead of spend so much time on "space adventure", the writers could have come up with a plausible "threat" that would truly require Earth's evacuation.

With the exception of the leap in the plot later. I suppose if Star Wars was on here it would be fine? lol Besides all that, it's actually about a father, family, and humanity.

I think I've watched at least half of them and I truly can't tell you a single ones ending because I either stopped watching them or got bored and forgot. I have seen so many good movies recently and I'm excited to see the next polls list. Lol

I see this as a plot device (it's the first 15 min of the film) and excuse to explore the wormhole, time relativity concepts etc. To be honest, I loved the movie so I'm not going to complain about this premise. I understand that you're choosing to dissect it in this manner because you didn't enjoy the rest of the movie either? That's fair. Btw. I don't have any knowledge on how long the amount of oxygen in the ocean could sustain the human race (probably somewhat a thousand or a couple thousand years?) but if we're talking about a movie premise which includes the devastation of all plants, for my own piece of mind I will assume it affected algae too (yeah, yeah, not a plant). I will choose to believe that (in the confines of this movie) whatever means of surviving on earth were always going to be temporary and eventually leaving earth, inevitable ;)

Oceans can be farmed for food - vegetable and animal, just as well as fields. Just tell me one thing: honestly, what do you think is easier, cheaper and quicker 1) To build large domes/underground bunkers with filtered air and oxygen produced from water; to have metals and minerals available for mining; to harvest algae, plankton, fish and sea plants for food and create a place where people can live normally and continue to work on solving the problem and restoring the planet. OR 2) To take all 6-7 billion people to move them via spaceships (!) to another solar system. But not just them, they also need food, medicine, shelter, air, gravity, building materials and some sort of acceptable living space so people don't go nuts. Also, people have to give up on our home planet and just let it die.

Not only editable crops but plant life - grasslands, forests etc. This causes less and less oxygen in the atmosphere. As Dr. Brand said - "the last to starve will be the first to suffocate". No food, no oxygen. A change of atmosphere like this would also have massive influence over the weather, causing a more and more inhospitable environment. No food. No oxygen. Dead sea life. Hurricanes, tornadoes, dust storms worldwide. Yes, the blight is a plot device to leave earth, but not an illogical one.

I don't have a problem with their "voyage". I have a problem with "why" they went. The reason is retarded. A problem with breathing and eating? Hello!? You have oceans! All the air and all the food humanity needs for the next thousand years. But no, the scientists think it's too difficult - lets all 6-7 billion of us leave the planet - that's easier - right? Makes it difficult to feel of the characters when you remember why all of this is happening.

It touches on many concepts (purposefully vague - don't want to spoil here for Rob and Trin) that of course have not been proven but have wide support amongst theoretical physicists and are grounded in our current knowledge.
