Stranger Things: Season 4 Chapter 4 - Dear Billy - First time watching!

Comments

This episode is one of the main reasons why I couldn't wait for you guys to get to season 4. We all took that run with Max when we first saw this. Rob, I don't think I've seen you this stressed while watching Stranger Things...EVER!! GREAT REACTION!! But keep holding on. The ride gets even crazier!!

Holy crap did I sob my heart out the first time I saw Max running for the opening with Kate Bush blasting away in the background. Utterly compelling, and like you both I was exhausted by the end of it. And shout out to the hero FBI guy - I did chuckle every time Rob pointed out how useless they were. Plus that shoot-out scene was filmed in one long shot, which is pretty impressive really. One of my all-time favourite episodes, the whole thing was just so well done.

When you said you thought the song might need to be about Billy, in a way it was. Listening to the lyrics and to what Vecna!Billy said, how Max late at night, sometimes wished to join Billy into death. How she feels guilty about just standing there, and the lyrics "if only i could make a deal with God and get him to swap our places," referencing her emotions about Billy. I thought it was such a powerful message about depression and fighting to get back to the ones you love with your own strength. The song in the background representing her emotional struggles and her running away from her demons and death (Vecna), dodging and getting past all the obstacles thrown at her to get back toward the light of her loved ones. I love how it's especially shown how Max herself had to fight for it. She had the people who were there for her, and she saw the door open for her so to speak, but she had to run toward it, and believe her life was worth fighting for to get there.

Trin called it - the FBI guy absolutely was a badass. Someone somewhere wrote that he started out a couch potato and turned into John McClane.

Running Up That Hill was just the perfect song choice. And the way that it has let newer generations discover Kate Bush. After 37 years... her song climbed the charts again. It hit #1 in the UK and other countries. Completely deserved.

Wendy Sparks

Not sure if you noticed, but Victor Creel is played by Robert Englund (Freddy Kreuger). And this season seems to be influenced by Nightmare on Elm Street).

the music and everything was just so good and I felt like my eyes would burst with tears if they killed Max in this moment :(

I had all the wine and tears the first time I saw it. I was so scared.

First time I have ever been on the edge of my seat in a reaction, was really thinking she would not make it ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Been waiting for so long for you to see that ending. I've rewatched that part of the episode so many times. So many emotions. There were a lot of people tying in how it was such a good demonstration of depression. She was giving in with all the letters but then remembered all the good times and fought her way to coming back.
