It's interesting that Jacob fought back so decidedly against the Man in Black's attempt thru Richard... but was so passive, and antagonizing, when the same thing happened with Ben.

Rob you’re right, the Canary Island scenes were filmed on Oahu just like the rest of Lost. I was on Oahu for the fan convention Lost 2014, and Richard’s house was on the filming locations tour. Another iconic Oahu filming location was the last scene with Jacob and the man in black overlooking the valley - it was the most beautiful place I’ve ever been!

I love this episode for being such a sudden injection of mythology that you're absolutely not expecting after eight episodes of strange flash sideways stories and weird temple people. Richard is such an enigma through the whole show so it was such a treat to get this episode in the 11th hour!
About a year ago I was able to pick up a limited edition print of some amazing art inspired by this episode, which is now framed and hanging in my living room. Since we can't share images here, here's a tweet from the artist M. Brady Clark (who sadly is not a full time artist), with an image of the print:

Cheers R&T! I'm so excited for the rest.

One of my favorite episodes too. A little interesting tid bit. We see Man in Black convincing Richard to kill the "devil", he handed him a dagger (the same dagger Dogen gave Sayid to kill Flocke), and told him Don't let him speak, if he speaks it's already too late (in other practical words, he would convince you with his words). That's the exact same thing Dogen told Sayid. Which leads us to believe that there was nothing magical about this dagger or the condition of not letting Flocke speak. It's just the story that Richard passed on to the others, along with the dagger, and Dogen used it to convince Sayid that he can kill Flocke. While now we know Dogen never meant for Sayid to kill Flocke, but to push Sayid in a position where maybe Flocke would kill Sayid (because he believes he's infected with Darkness), since the others aren't allowed to kill a candidate.

Rob's face as he was starting to realize it was finally a Richard episode lol. Love it. I've been waiting for this one. It's one of my favorite episodes. It's like a mini movie really. So good.

I really feel like they wanted Richard to be even older... but they were boxed in by the dynamite aboard the Black Rock. Dynamite wasn't patented until around 1867.
