The Village - First time watching!

Comments

I’m late to the village party!! Came here after watching your Signs reaction. I missed Trin in this one 😭 yall have such great chemistry. You were killing me with the dumpster though. Killing me with laughter πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ they definitely did not say dumpster aaaaaaaand the color was yellow, not green πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ me and my husband love M Night movies. We actually saw signs on a date πŸ’œ all his movies are good in their own way. He made a mistake making the Sixth Sense first bc it was so good everyone compared it and also looked for twists that sometimes aren’t there. There definitely was a twist in this but it’s hit or miss with his movies. Btw don’t watch β€œOld” it sucks! And it’s stupid πŸ˜‚

Nooooooo!!! Can you please fix the link?

Caroline

Not sure if you'll get this, but the link no longer works. I hope you can update it.

Sorry if you liked it, but M. Night Shyamalan movies are garbage. This is the first movie I watched as a kid that made me realize some movies aren't good. I saw someone recommended signs. It's got gigantic plot holes in it with incredibly nonsensical enemies.

Reverend Jim Jones

I want a show about the beginning days of the village. I think it would be amazing to see what it took to get it all started

Schmaster

Please watch Signs, its amazing :D

Catharina Dahlqvist

I thought that watching BSG will be enough for today, but then I saw a reaction to Village! Great movie! And there is not a single reaction on YouTube. Another Shyamalan movie is "Lady in the Water". Not as great as Six Sense, but not much worse, definitely worth a watch.

Autists mimic behaviours and adopt cyclical rituals and habits; and it takes rigid discipline and repeated intervention to break and control bad habits and cycles of violent behaviours. The stabbing scene was shocking. I felt profound sadness for both Lucius and for Noah. I don't condone what he did; but I understand it. He wanted Ivy for himself; he had a firm attachment to her. When she smacked his face I reacted in anger and when the door closed and he let out those harrowing cries; my heart just broke for him. His death was so painful to watch, the confusion on his face when the camera panned in, and then the stark cold loneliness as it panned away; a desolate scene. I wanted to smack his mother at the end when she remained silent as the elder suggested to use his death to maintain the sick illusion that they created. Twisted. It blew my mind.

The tragedy of Noah. Noah clearly had developmental delay and definite autistic traits. It is difficult to determine quite where he sits on the spectrum; I would take a guess and say mid to high functioning because he clearly had some capabilities in that he was able to communicate verbally at more than a basic level; and he had a somewhat understanding of cause and effect ( he demonstrated this when he brought the red berries and placed them in Ivy's hands in anticipation of her reaction, which he correctly knew would scare her). I believe that this was a learned behaviour. I believe that the Elders included Noah in their scare tactics; he was in on the secret in his limited way; because he lacked the capacity to spill the beans; to explain it. My thought process leads me to think that it was some of the elders killing and skinning the animals; with Noah present (why would they hide it from him; he wasn't able to tell)...continues below...

Damn. Where did my comment disappear to? I just wrote a loooong comment on my thoughts about the movie; then refreshed the page to read the other comments and mine was gone. It's late now; so I will try again tomorrow.

Mel Ireland Lostie

hahahaha glad I was not the only one xD

Jeez what a bunch of cowards. Perpetuating a lie to instill fear in people. I honestly can't think of worse. Except that they're stupid. You've got humans in your little village. You're still gon have violence, greed, etc. Lhm. If I was her, I'd go back and expose it all. Give those people freedom. That was different. Ps. Rob, I cussed more than you did.

kj robbi

I can't even imagine. I actually have perfect color perception. Horrible eyesight tho. But hey, once you know what your "thing" is, you can learn to get around it. Crazy fact... I even associate a certain hue with people. A personality. Trippy huh

kj robbi

hahaha its why all my clothes are usually black or dark blue etc, I wont risk anything in another colour lmao

They're very similar. Btw, my dad was color blind. He saw yellow where there was none. Brought me a blue, ugh, couch years ago, and swore it was green πŸ˜†

kj robbi

Ahhh okay, yeah I was thinking jessica chastain lmao! I just googled her and can see why I was confused but yeah xD

The redhead is Ron Howard's daughter Bryce Dallas Howard. Btw, Jessica Chastain is in a lot of my most watched movies. I'll come back later and finish. Liking it so far. About 1/3 in.

kj robbi

Yeah the cast in this is top notch!

lemmy

Hi, Is this a horror movie? I just read Darrell's comment and he said it's a period drama. I don't do horror cos I'm a scaredy cat; but if it isn't then I might watch it. Thanks.

Mel Ireland Lostie

Yeah I think i will have to watch them both eventually, 2 out of 2 movies I loved so far so I will get to them for sure :)

Really? People actually did not like this? Hahaha, I thought it was awesome xD but yeah I am so glad I knew nothing going in! I was told it was good and that was it lol

The other movie your friend was referencing is called 'Signs'. It is good but if you haven't seen it... Shyamalan's second film 'Unbreakable' is a masterpiece. Slow burn but top tier!

Rob mate, love the fact that you'd never heard of this and so delivered a genuine reaction! I fucking LOVE this movie. This movie was vilified when it was released, Shyamalan's 4th movie so people were just in twist hunt mode from the off plus it was marketed as a horror when it is in fact a romantic (period) drama! The stabbing scene is something else, it really is sinister and one of my favourite scenes in any movie. I know you mentioned you're colour blind but the use of colour in this movie is out of this world too. Red and Yellow were the key colours on this one and just like Sixth Sense it was so meticulous. I honestly can't say enough good things about the tone, the staccato dialogue, the music, the cinematography (Roger Deakins FFS) and so much more. It deserves more love!
