Throgg's heart sank when he heard his mother sobbing behind him in the courtroom. He was filled with guilt and a strong desire to comfort her, to wrap an arm around her or hug her, anything to ease her pain.
If there was anyone who did not deserve this, it was her. The situation was unfair to her. Throgg's mother had always been a caring mother who worked around the clock to ensure her kids were well enough pampered and did not lack anything. Nothing was too much for her.
What had Throgg done to repay her? He had taken the life of his sister and her daughter by blasting a bullet through her skull.
The elation Throgg experienced after completing the task - and subsequently freeing himself from his sister's torment - was brief.
Prodded by his mother's desperate screams, his victorious laughter quickly turned into shocked silence as he stared in horror at the lifeless figure of his sister on the floor, a pool of blood seeping onto the carpet and filling the room with a metallic odor.
After that, everything was a roller coaster for Throgg as his body was dragged along on the ride of whatever life had concocted for him following his terrible deed. He went through a short police interrogation where he quickly confessed to being the one who pulled the trigger and ended his sister's life. Now, he sat in the courtroom, anticipating his trial and the punishment that would follow for this crime.
The lawyer jabbed him in the ribs, silently instructing him to rise from his seat as the judge made his entrance into the courtroom. After all the formalities were completed and several individuals had given their speeches, it was Throgg's turn to face questions from the prosecutor.
Throgg could feel the weight of everyone's stares as he walked towards the witness stand. He sat down and quickly scanned the courtroom. He gave a moment of his attention to his crying mother before the court official held out a bible for him to swear on. As his hand touched the cover, Throgg furrowed his brow. He thought he saw a brief vision of a woman's face on it. This was strange, as he had never noticed a female image in a bible before.
The court official cleared his throat. "Please raise your right hand. Do you swear that the testimony you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you, Dina?"
Throgg appeared bewildered upon hearing the last word, but he responded nevertheless. "I do."
After that, Throgg did his thing, answered all questions honestly, pleaded guilty, and returned to his seat. The rest of the trial went by in a daze.
The judge finally returned to deliver the final verdict. Despite his heavy remorse for killing his sister, Throgg couldn't help but feel fearful about the punishment he was about to receive.
His actions would most likely result in him being charged with first-degree murder. Throgg wasn't knowledgeable about criminal cases, but his lawyer had explained that if he was convicted–which seemed inevitable since he gave an admission of guilt–he could face a life sentence or even the death penalty. If he were fortunate, he would receive a lengthy prison term instead.
Throgg dreaded the possibility of either of those outcomes, but the thought of a life sentence scared him the most. It would mean losing all hope for the future and being tormented by guilt for the rest of his days. Just let it all be over. His main worry when facing the death penalty was that his mother would also suffer consequences, as she had already lost one child.
Throgg, like everyone else in the courtroom, stood up as the door opened and the judge walked in. As he caught sight of the judge, his eyes widened in disbelief. He shook his head and gave himself a light slap on the cheek to ensure that what he was seeing was not a hallucination.
Just moments ago, the judge was a heavyset, elderly man with slicked-back hair and a wattle that shook every time he had a coughing fit.
However, the man was now missing from sight. Approaching confidently in a black robe was a beautiful young girl with straw-blond hair and a perky swag in her walk that wore the spitting image of his sister, Dina!
"D-Dina, you're alive!" Throgg bellowed through the courtroom, which ended up in him getting reprimanded for disturbing the order in the court.
Dina flashed a brief, confident smile at the shocked Throgg before gracefully taking her seat. As the rest of the room settled back into their chairs, Throgg looked around in disbelief, wondering if anyone else was witnessing the same thing. Just in case, he pinched himself and slapped his face to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. But there she was - Dina, a mere 16-year-old girl, sitting in the authoritative position of judge while her body should be lying in the mortuary.
Throgg was baffled by the fact that everyone else seemed utterly unfazed by the strange events unfolding. Even his mother acted as though it were all perfectly normal. He started to question if he was losing his sanity. In a hushed tone, he asked his lawyer if they were both witnessing the same bizarre occurrences.
The lawyer stared at Throgg as if he had just claimed that the sun rises at night and the moon during the day. "Of course, it's her! Everything is Dina Locksley," he said.
As the Dina judge opened her mouth to speak, a sudden gasp echoed through the courtroom. The air was heavy with fear and tension as everyone turned to look out the windows. A thick darkness had descended over the city, blocking out the sun. Throgg glanced at the Dina judge, who gave him a stern and unreadable glare before he hurried towards the window to investigate.
Throgg's heart raced as he surveyed the bustling crossroad below. Suddenly, every person froze in place, like marionettes with their strings cut. Cars and buses screeched to a halt, their drivers abandoning them in a frenzy to cluster together on the streets, all eyes turned skyward. The entire city had come to a sudden halt, gripped with an eerie stillness that sent chills down Throgg's spine.
Throgg could faintly make out the murmurs of people behind him, uttering the word "God" in awe.
Throgg's focus was abruptly pulled away from the strange scene of a bustling city frozen in time as if it were a clock that needed to be wound up again. His gaze snapped toward the sky, where an unnatural event occurred. The once bright blue sky with the blazing sun that neatly rained down its beams through the narrow windows of the courtroom had seemingly been extinguished, leaving behind a dark and eerie atmosphere reminiscent of twilight. As Throgg gaped at it all, he couldn't help but feel uneasy at the sight.
Something or someone was doing this...
As Throgg and the rest of the city's inhabitants continued to stare at the strange spectacle unfolding above them in the sky, a shiver ran through his body. He couldn't shake off the eerie sensation that they were being watched by something immense and otherworldly. Suddenly, a colossal, all-seeing eye appeared in the sky, staring directly at them, making Throgg feel exposed and vulnerable under its gaze.
Dina couldn't help but let out a small laugh as her left eye focused on the tiny city dotted on her pinky nail. From afar, it appeared as nothing more than a small gray smudge on top of her vibrant pink nail polish.
But when she brought it close to her eye, almost touching her cornea, the gray smudge transformed into a bustling city with countless minuscule inhabitants moving about. Most people wouldn't be able to see something so small, but Dina was far from ordinary.
It was like child's play for her to get a clear focus on what was happening down there on the object resting on the nail of her pinky finger that looked even more pitiful than the bloodstain of an ant.
Her whole hometown was resting there in its gloriousness and the millions of people who lived there. Dina included, which was quite ironic because she was sitting in her bedroom in a lazy pajama shirt that barely covered her luscious thighs while lounging in a lazy chair and looking down upon it from above.
Dina grinned when she could feel her own gaze smiling down upon them from above.
She could even locate her pitiful brother staring up at her immensely huge eye from the courtroom that was currently serving justice for his heinous act.
Dina conjured her hometown in a glass jar resting on a side table with a single thought. She stretched her arms out with a yawn and leaned over, resting her head on her arms to grant herself a good look at the infinitesimal continent entrapped in the glass jar. It was so easy for her to do such a thing. Dina could do anything.
Knowing that she held a position of absolute power over everything, Dina found it easier to let go of her reservations and act on her inner desires. She felt mischievous and stood up, turning around and lifting her pajama shirt to give the pitiful continent in her glass jar a view of her bare bottom. She clasped one cheek with a firm hand and commanded, "Give praise to this. Now!"
