Weekly Progress Update [15/MAY]

Hey all, it's been one hell of a week. Hope you've all managed!

I managed to get a bit of writing done this week, though not as much as I would've liked as I'm in the ~Methodology~ part of my thesis and currently in the collecting and analyzing data phase. It's going to be a long few weeks ahead of me lol.

Even so, I did manage to add another +4k words to the draft this week, to a total of 19k words! 

However. I went back to the opening scene over the weekend and decided that the variations weren't quite differentiated enough - a lot of it felt like I was copy/pasting chunks of text interspersed with some flavor to specify a different location or LI relationship, but that's about it.

So, for this week I think I'll go back and add/expand on the opening scene a bit. Which means it'll be even more than the 11k words that it's currently at. Which might be a little bit ambitious on my part and could delay the chapter release, but I really feel like I can do more to improve it and give much more varied player experiences as a result!

The total wordcount goal for CH9 might increase to 45k as a result, but it's not that big of an increase, honestly. I can get it done in a week, so a little bit of a release delay is worth it to me to ensure the end product is where I want it to be at ✨

Also, another tidbit: I changed the saving mechanic for the in-game menu because the Rename Your Save pop-up is a total nightmare to deal with in a mobile browser, and I'm pretty sure it's the reason that the save function doesn't work on the itch.io app. So, I've revamped it to where it now will automatically save your Crown's name, which chapter you're in, and their LI route if applicable. It'll look like this:

So unfortunately no more Wacky Meme Save Names for the in-game menu, though you can still do so with Saving to Disk which is my recommended method of saving and renaming the saves in your files!

Note that if you load in an old save once CH9 is released that is somewhere in like, the middle of a chapter and save again, the save might be named CH0 because the variable that updates the save names are located at the start of each chapter; you have to visit the passage for it to update correctly. So it should correct itself once you pass by the first page of a chapter!
