It took me this long to realize old Simon is voiced by THE NARRATOR at the beginin of each episode

Simon has surpassed Kamina in every way, and I think that's what Kamina always saw would happen. He saw something in Simon that even the audience didn't at the time. Viral's dream the one thing he could never have, having and raising a child, fucks me up honestly. He could have a partner if he was the type to settle down, but a child is forever out of reach due to his biology. Yoko's is sad but understandable. So many directions her life could have gone outside of war. She's not unloved, but she tends to fall for the the sort of relationships destined for destruction. Making her actively shut off that dream is to forever close that door for the future. I like to believe her life was filled with love and joy by the children she taught. Such a wild direction to take her character from where she started in episode 1. You touched on basically everything else I'd mention. The rest of the cast being weaker is for sure my biggest critique, but I can't even imagine how much time it would have taken to get us invested in just half the cast that died. Kittan I give an exception that I think him always being stuck in Kamina's shadow is good writing, and growing out of that and surpassing Kamina in his own right was a good way to take his character. He made Yoko dream of a future with him, can't take that W from him.

2025-12-31 19:30:26 +0000 UTCI want to say that Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann has two movies, but they’re both compilation films. That said, there are some new scenes added in the final battle sequences, you can check them out privately when you have time later.
