Truly one of most wholesome things, around all of the depressing circumstances is that you can tell that NOBODY... was satisfied with the result that El Condor Pasa wins this race. When they cut to the post-race interview and El Condor Pasa is holding the trophy... you can feel every ounce of her KNOW she doesn't deserve it. Suzuka was so insanely far ahead that there is absolutely no debate who was supposed to win that Trophy. The racers don't doubt it, the commentators don't doubt it, the audience doesn't doubt it. You can really appreciate the ammount of respect they treat the incident with - even if she doesn't get the trophy in the end.

2025-12-30 06:26:41 +0000 UTCanother race with all the participants outside of Suzuka being different people, but in this case we're at least doing a narrative thing for El Condor Pasa, in terms of having her win a race in a non-satisfying way - it's also necessary because only one horse in this race other than Suzuka is not licensed by CyGames at this point (and even to this day, only one other horse has been licensed). As other comments have pointed out, this is a much kinder result then the real world incident, but a bit that hasn't been pointed out is that the specific hobble that Suzuka started running at when the injury set in is believed to have been an attempt by the horse to protect the life of the Jockey, Yutaka Take (Take is a legendary jockey in Japan who is still riding all the way up to today). Specifically in terms of recovery for fractures for horses, fractures were, especially back then, far more deadly then they are in comparison to humans.

During the race, he suffered a comminuted fracture of the left carpal bone (in his front leg) and was forced to withdraw. Later that day, he was diagnosed with a poor prognosis and was humanely euthanized.
