Progress Report

So, time for another progress report. And, miracle of miracles, everything I have to report at the moment is actually positive. Don't get used to it! I know I'll try not to, as if I do I won't be ready for the next ambush by Murphy's Minions or the dastardly henchmen of Writer's Block.

Haven's Port

Things are going pretty well here! I just finished up the last render for the ninth scene for the build. I'll likely kick off at least one render for the 10th scene before I crash, which will put me a tad ahead of where I expected to be, happily. Currently, unless something goes wrong (which it very well could, I keep waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop, since none of the scenes so far have caused any issues), I'm expecting there to be 14 scenes in the build. With the average scene length actually being longer than usual, that means the total build size will be darn close to any other build, despite the delay in starting it. There is going to be a bit more post-work needed this time than usual, which is annoying, but I think it will be fine. Probably. Either way, I'm intending to wrap up rendering on the 25th or 26th, which will give me six or so days for the writing/editing/programming. That should be enough, at least in theory. Generally, I have a good mental outline for each scene already rattling around in my noggin. I kinda have to in order to plan the renders themselves out, after all.

Silas Station 3

Rendering for this is almost done. I should only need a single additional render, which I'll run either tonight or tomorrow. The one thing I will say about it is that the renders are a little less...varied then usual? I don't think it's a bad thing, really. I just found it easier to tell the story this time with a lot of minor changes between renders instead of bigger changes. I think it'll still turn out pretty good, maybe even better for doing it this way in this case. Like with Haven's Port, it's going to need a bit more post-work than usual. Funny how that turned out to be the case on both render sets this time, but it is what it is. And nothing in the post work should actually be hard, just a bit time consuming.

Even with that, though, I'm expecting to be finished with it by the 25th, so that I can publish it then switch over to full-press on the Haven's Port writing/programming. Which is the usual pattern I use and typically works out the best for me. It does sometimes cause issues with the second short for the month...but...

Short Story - Long Haul

...Not this time, I think. In point of fact, I already have about 2,700 words written for the Long Haul short story, and I'll probably squeeze a couple of hundred more in tonight. With any luck, I'll finish it before Silas Station, putting me ahead of schedule for once! I think it may end up being a tad on the shorter side...but that's honestly not a bad thing in this one's case. I'm very happy with it so far, it just so happens that I think I may hit a point that adding words just to hit my nebulous 5k word goal post may be detrimental this time. I'm still expecting it to solidly hit 4,000 words, minimum. So it won't be that short.
