Short Story - Station 11 (Part 2)
Added 2021-07-27 17:56:43 +0000 UTCAs promised earlier today in my progress report post, I'm posting the second short story for the month! Note that, while I titled this as Station 11 (Part 2) in the post title for clarity sake...this series has been renamed. Originally, Station 11 was a one-shot, and the title referred to the specific space station that Tara and Lana had stopped over on. As that station will not feature in any additional stories, it would have been odd to continue using it as the series title. As such, the SERIES is now titled: The Long Haul. And now consists of:
The Long Haul: Station 11
and
The Long Haul: Groundside Explorations
Obviously, that second one is what I'm actually releasing today. Now, as I've cleared up that potentially confusing bit of info...about the story itself! I was very surprised but somewhat pleased, that Station 11/The Long Haul won the story poll this month! That said, while I'm actually quite happy with the quality of the second entry in the series...it is a tad bit shorter than I'd have liked. Normally, as you may remember, I shoot for around 5k for each short story (or 7k with the Mass Effect fanfiction as it's a bit easier to write). This one came in only a bit over 4,100 words...but adding any more to it would have been either artificially stuffing more words for a higher word count or else starting on the next segment I'm planning for the series.
The first is silly and results in lower quality. Much like those days back in high school or college where we all added more wordy sentences or repeated statements in new ways to make our homework longer -_-. And the second would have extended the short to 6-7k words. Which wouldn't be a problem...if I had more time to work on things. As is, the world is imperfect and I can't spare the time if I want Haven's Port to be on time. So, I cut it off at the natural stopping point that I hit at 4,100ish words. So...my apologies for it being on the shorter side! I think it's still pretty good, though!
