Ta-da! I can finally present the first little spoiler(ish) of what the final Hub Area of the game is going to be! This has been something I've had planned for...over a year now? Something like that. I had settled on 'Tropical Island' very early on, clear back in like Build 3. In part, that was because chance had led me to be aware of the Tropical Skyrim Mod. Though, in truth, I'm not actually making much use of that mod itself, save where it changes textures in broad strokes. Indeed, this area is already proving to be a boatload of work, with me needing to mesh a bunch of different mods together in ways that may or may not border on the unholy. It's one of the things that makes me laugh in frustrated mania every time someone asks why I didn't just make this all a Skyrim Mod. Trust me, nothing as complex as Chastity Quest is actually possible as a Skyrim mod. Not with only one person, at least. I cheat like heck to make everything work, with locations that YOU guys see as connected inside Chastity Quest actually often being from completely different mods on opposite ends of Skyrim. Those images in this post? Those are all five completely separate mods/locations. I just pick them carefully and shoot them in such a way that they seem connected.
Anyway, the ground work needed this time (which is more than any other area so far do to the massive climate shift) has actually been frustrating my efforts a bit so far, resulting in me only having about 5 scenes completely captured. Though, part of that is my ongoing frustrations to changes with other mods (*cough* Devious Devices *cough*) that are kinda crippling my efforts. Grr. Regardless, I'm a bit behind schedule, but not so much that the slack I build into all of my schedules for problems has been completely consumed or anything. On that note, though, I do want to talk about exactly what is going to be in this build.
First, given how one-sided the voting has been, I'll be focusing on the hub area itself rather than rushing to try and get endings in as soon as possible. This, honestly, is the result I was hoping for. Second...expect this update to have a few less scenes than usual. Around 30 is my current target, though if things go well 35 may be possible. Strangely, the reason for this actually isn't the overrun of Haven's Port into this month. It is, in fact, something that was already mostly planned. You see, now that we are nearing completion, I really need to get on top of some overhauls, plus some finish/polish stuff like the music. The reason for the lower total scene counts is because I'm also planning to include all of the following:
-----
1) Music! Hopefully for every major location of the game! I've already got most of his mapped out, though I haven't done so for the final hub area yet.
2) Fast Travel Button! So...I've been trying to sneak this in for a couple builds now. Only having access to fast travel from whatever bedroom for the hub area sucks. I know it, you know it, and I really want to fix it. The current plan is to make an extra button much like the character menu button, that will allow fast travel between all discovered major areas (interal to the hub area you're in, of course). Though...there's a reason I didn't do that to start with. Namely, that those buttons caused lag. I'm hoping changes/upgrades to the shoddy as heck engine in the last year and a half have fixed that. If not, I may have to simply add it as an additional option in each location's menu, which would be extremely cumbersome.
3) Menu Overhauls. This was started with the overhaul I did a few builds ago to the Character Menu. But I was supposed to have also overhauled the Credits Menu at the same time, since the current version is...painfully horrible. So, I'm going to stick it in this build if at all possible...and add in a less bland Main Menu as well, if I can figure out what to do there.
4) Dom/Sub Locking + Dom/Sub Area Limits. This one is something I've been struggling to figure out since literally the beginning. You actually aren't supposed to be able to limitlessly raise and lower your Dom/Sub score in every area. It was originally designed to hard-limit you with how much you could change the value in each 'Hub Area.' Unfortunately, I felt that enforcing that limit without ALSO figuring out how to let players lock/unlock their gains was too frustrating to be allowed. Unfortunately, for the way the last area and endings are supposed to play out, I have to fix it at this point. Thankfully, after a lot of aggravating hair pulling, I think I've sorted out something that will work reasonably well. A fairly simple solution, even, so long as it doesn't add a lot of lag in the process. Though implementing it will be slightly time-consuming.
-------
Soooo, I think you can see why I'm not being overly ambitious with my planned scene count, yes? I will push for a bit more of I can pull it off, if for no other reason than to make the last build less troublesome. But my actual target is 30 scenes. Which is still a pretty decent chunk of content, I think...
