So... this is really hard to talk about because I can imagine people might not like to hear it, but I want to make an announcement.

I started TQ back in college when I was still not used to using a tablet.  I didn't understand cinematography concepts that have proven useful in my thumbnailing, nor did I even plan out thumbnails very well.  I chose whatever colors I wanted without thinking about how long it would take to pull colors from previous pages.  I did not necessarily plan out facial features very well.  I forced far too much dialogue into single pages without anything going on in the background.  While the art has improved, I cannot say I am proud of TQ as it stands.

I don't just want to fix it, I want to start over.  Different specs and everything.  I want to redesign it.  Choose a new color palette.  Change/ cut lines to help things flow better.  The works.

I've been putting it off because-- and it pains me to say it-- TQ would have to go on hiatus while I start from the beginning.  I want to get I nice chunk ready and release it all at once before resuming regular updates. Now imagine this:  I've been continuously working on this series since January 2014.  Close to three years of work, and I am at a point where it hurts to work on it because all I want to do is start fresh.

I plan on creating short sketch comics to release in the meantime and will post the thumbnails and new pages here on Patreon as I finish them, so you all wouldn't have to wait for the re-release for anything.  I just feel awful grinding the story to a halt to go back to the beginning. On the plus side:  If I do this, I will condense the color palette and likely make it easier for me to churn out pages faster.  Once I finish Persephone (which is going faster than expected) I might be able to start updating TQ more often if you all are into that.

You all are my biggest fans, the ones who put your money where your mouths are to support me, so I'm asking you:  What do you think of this?

If that is what you want to do, then do it. It will make your experience with it better because its not nagging at you anymore. I just hope Kizara keeps her red hair. owo

I think you should do what makes you happy. I'll still read your work regardless. :)

I'm all for it. I love the other two comics among other things for the restricted colour palette and while I think Tg has an interesting idea it's not as engagig as f.e. FTTN. I admire Your passion - I'm way to lazy to redo my work after it's done.

wiedźma_florentyna

I like what I've seen so far, and I never mind re-reading a good book! I am always excited to see updates of your work, its a well spent couple of smackers! (And no I don't think I will feel particularly cheated either!)

Sometimes projects just don't work out the way we want them to and we're faced with a choice: abandon it, patch it, or go back and start over. Any of those choices is a good one if it is the choice you really want to make. In the end, a creative person has to please themself first else they cannot please anyone. Starting over is difficult, but it is not a sign of failure, only that you recognize a better way. I'll look forward to the reboot!

GAH!!! I understand and even want to read the redone work but GAH! But really I will read almost anything you create so do what keeps me able to read comics!

Karis Hathaway

There's nothing wrong with wanting to redo your comic now that you've grown as an artist. Go for it! There are plenty of us who stand behind you, and those who don't aren't thinking of you, they're only thinking of themselves.

Please do as your heart tells you. Our opinion aside, your art comes from your heart, and if your heart is not in it... then the art suffers. I support you as an artist, and trust you to create art that makes you happy.

Your comic should be a joy to work on. If you wish to reboot it you may. I love these characters and it will be fun to see your updated vision for them. I will say that there is a third option. You could launch your updated design within the current story arc. Then if things are going faster keep the new updates to once a week and redo the old at the same time. It's just a thought. The importance of the hiatus probably depends on length. Course we'll be here for you no matter what! :)

To echo what others are saying, I think that if redoing TQ would make you happy, go for it!! It's definitely obvious how much you have grown as a writer and an artist since, and it's not like redoing a comic is a death knell, I mean just look at Earthsong :] The artist kept revamping big chunks of that and now she has a finished comic she can be proud of. Personally I look forward to seeing how you choose to tell the story now - change is exciting!! Anyway, good luck and have fun!!

I say go for it. You are the master of your own destiny as they say. We're just here for the ride . I enjoy TQ immensely, and if you have ideas running around in your head to make it even better, then who am I to stop you from having fun with it. Your progress in your art style is most prominent in TQ, and someone below has mentioned it, but I too quite enjoy seeing the difference in quality from start and end- makes me feel like the artist has really pushed themselves and achieved their talent in leaps and bounds. But TQ is your baby, and I have a lot of patience. I'm excited to see what you can make of TQ from the very beginning.

Queenbol

Uh wanted to do the new paragraph ... Anyway TQ brought me here but i greatly enjoy your work in general and would continue to support you no matter the decision ^^

I know two other comic who tryied this one is Drowtales which is at this point 15y colossus of work, Kern tryied to rework it i think roughly 6y of work? some parts was done but it was too much and they decided to just continue. Other one is by Madeleine Rosca From the Ashes, she recently scraped her probably a year worth of work and started anew. TQ is closer to DT in amount of work already put in the comic but not yet as huge to be impossible to redo so i would say if you really feel that it would be better and more joyful for you to have old pages more up to par with your current knowledge of comic creating do it now as longer you wait the harder it will be. On the other hand your skill will evolve, your way of seeing and composing pages will change and continue to evolve so you might feel like this again after few years. If i might propose another option maybe you can do the changes with next update and instead of giving us another new page you can update old one instead so current flow of comic would not be disrupted.

You're the artist, composer, & writer, and you have to be happy with your legacy. 2 requests though, if you will: first, as others have asked, please leave the current strips up and available for browsing and/or comparison while you work on the re-vamp. Second, could you at least let Kizarasunga finish her narrative about Khatilo before putting TQ on hiatus? Thank you!

Granny Smith

This is a hard one and it got me thinking quite a lot - so I will put all of my thoughts here honestly. Of course like anyone else I will continue to support you. On the other hand I think you should know that TQ is what brought me here: You might not be happy with your work but it was one of the few comics I have been excited to see updated since ever I started to read it more than 1 1/2 years ago. I have followed other comics as well - and at one point or the other the artist became unsatisfied with their beginnings - of course, you learn such a lot when continously working on a story and surely you might feel the urge to fix it one way or the other - I feel like this about many of my works as a writer as well. But don't let perfectionism kick in too much and prevent it from finishing your stories (I have seen this happening too often too) When I look at printed comics I have been following over the years - there is one I have been following for 20 years now... I look back at the artist's work in the beginning - God it is a bit crude now looking back and she has learnt a lot - but since it is printed she can not go over it and change it, right? You could say that is a pity - or you could say - wow, it is great you can see how much she has progressed over the years. And since she can not take her printed comic back, she can invest her energy in new projects... Do you see my point? If it is like you can not go on making TQ unless you start from square one again, then please go for it! Especially since you have 2 other comics going that will keep your fanbase happy. But I think TQ has been an amazing comic - I rather see it finished with the older chapters like they are and the new chapters evolving into a new direction (like you let your characters step out of the panels...) Also when a musician makes a cd, after the album is released he can not take it back, he will take from it whether has learned and do it even more better next time... So, well those are my true feelings and thoughts on this!

Elisa

As an artist myself, with a fair number of cancelled projects due to similar reasons, I completely understand. Nothing hurts more than working on something you are not happy with. So please, go for it! Like the others have said so far, make something you are proud of! I would say to leave what pages you do have already, or maybe have another site. Perhaps on Tapastic, have the first and most recent page make note that you are planning a reboot? Have you heard of "Trying Human"? They have a link on their comic site that leads to another page called "first tries" and they compare their old pages with new pages. They make notes of what they changed and what they're proud of and the like. Just a thought, if you want to go through that effort :) Alternatively, there is another comic called "Alice and the Nightmare" that also went a reboot, but they took all their pages down and left a notice on the home page.

Every single person I've met is the incredible at self-criticism. Still, ever since I discovered TQ on Tapastic, I've seen you grow by leaps and bounds in the last year. Like others here are saying, if you're not happy with your work, you have the right to start anew, especially if you're going to be applying a lot of the skills you've learned from doing Far to the North and Persephone. If nothing else, you make good art, and you're telling AMAZING stories. You're the first audience to read your work, so start fresh if that's what will keep your inspiration burning bright.

Marlynna

Not original I know but do what you feel is right. If you want to start over and redo TQ from the start then do so. Make it something you are proud of. Better than forcing yourself to make something you're not going to like. It will show in your work. Just... if its not too much trouble can you leave the original up? Please? Cause its pretty to look at and it would be awesome to compare changes. You don't have to but its soooo awesome to look at Even though I do know the new version will be just as cool or cooler.

Becca

Yeah, I'm with everyone else. You're not ending TQ (which I think we'd all be against because it's awesome), you're making it better. Better to reboot than let yourself stagnate until... it... just... stops. So go for it.

Thomas Joseph

"Close to three years of work, and I am at a point where it hurts to work on it because all I want to do is start fresh." Sounds like my PhD project! But seriously, do what feels right. You won't be able to do your best work if you're not happy.

I say go for it dude. Although I'm sad I won't see any story progression for a long time with TQ, but at least I got FTTN and Persephone for that :D. But now Im interested in what sort of changes you will make to the series

Irishxlily

If it isn't working for you, you have to listen to your gut. I would much rather see an artist craft their work into what they are happy with, rather than force the continuation of something that truly pains them. There will always be some people who will take your decision the wrong way, but I for one understand and support it. I look forward to seeing what new direction you take. Good luck!

Do it! It's your work, so you have every right to do whatever makes you happy with it. We'll wait. :) Start over, play with ideas, take naps, and when you're ready to present it to the world, we'll be here to tell you how amazing it looks.

Naomi

Honestly? Go for it if your happier with it the better for us.
