Be careful on using copy protection, because they're not invincible, just like anti-virus software. The protection also can (most of the time, but not always) cause problems against the paying user (like if the authentication server gets shut down for internet-required based protection). Most Indie developers know that their games will eventually be cracked so they release a DRM-free version onto GOG a while later hoping to get customers unhappy about the protection (or release it when cracked). I am not endorsing this type of crime, it's just that this protection isn't perfect, and probably will never be.

A fraudster with a stolen credit card uses a key to buy games on steam, the real card owner finds charges in his account and asks for a chargeback. The chargeback fee and the refund happens against the developer. Which means that while piracy allows freeloading off of the developer (makes none), anyone buying games off of G2A causes the game developer to lose money (have to pay for the chargeback fee).
