Status update

I just rolled the new algorithm to the production version of Steam Spy.  As backers, you should be able to see the data calculated by it for data poinst starting  at 2nd of April 2018.

The algorithm only works for owners now and only on games pages. Number of players and average playtime are still calculated by the old algorithm and are incorrect.

I would really appreciate if you could compare the new data on your titles to your real numbers and tell me if the algorithm is off and by how much. I don't need to know the game's name or the actual numbers, just something along the lines "Our game is in 5-50K range and your site overestimates the number of owners by 15%".

Thank you for bearing with me while I work on this.

Comments

Seems the stats for new games should be accurate, but I'll need to verify that, of course. The algorithm doesn't rely much on previous data to avoid piling up errors, so it should work fine for new titles.

It looks like most games are within +/-10% of their previous ownership estimates. Should we expect to see the same level of accuracy for games released on Steam after the privacy update? Or, will they be unreliable since you do not have an accurate reference point for those games to calibrate against?

We've got 700-750K [sold + activated] and you're off by -50K
