i grew up in Canada watching TV from Detroit and ... it still feels like Canadian TV is from the "other" dimension. Like American TV is normal and Canadian TV is an approximation of that LOL... idk how to explain it....... i do love homegrown media but its got this stink on it like u could tell right away

Emily Tong

“Almost 60” is different than 60, let’s be fair to this guy

Tom Nagel

Oh fuck yea

Wadi

I always thought people getting banned was a bit, that’s great lol. Also as a somewhat recent Toronto transplant I love all the “local” movies that get covered on the show. Edit: also my parents had satellite throughout the early 00s. It didn’t cut out for normal rain, but when it was storming or heavy dark clouds it would def shit the bed for a good 10-20 minutes.

Wadi

I converted to the new flesh. The RSS feed is still an issue.

Joshua

Poutine is pretty big in Toronto now too. Poutineries have really expanded across Canada and pretty much anywhere you can get French fries you can get poutine. Count me in for a Toronto live show. Would love to see you guys come up North.

Brian W

I think The Rock is really hoping that Mark Kerr biopic, Smashing Machine, is gonna give him some serious actor cred.

Jack McReynolds

Avid Rugby Union and American Football fan here. Louis Rees Zammit is a good rugby player. He's played at the international level (Wales). He plays as a winger, which would probably translate best to a kick returner, O do find it odd that hes listed as a running back. I'd be super interested to see if Andy Reid implements his offloading skills to add more lateral passes to the game. In terms of his skills set, he would probably rank 8-12th in the world at his position. Needless to say, there is a lot more the money in the NFL. So, if Zammit succeeds, some top tier rugby players will more than likely try and make the transition.

Don't jerk me around fella

Bring me the Head of Warren Oates

Rodgers have you watched any of the media interviews with the new Bill's wr Keon Coleman? He's a great interview I hope he works out for them on the field

Mijo

This movie felt like homework

“I’m me?”

Tom Nagel

I’ve got the Criterion DVD of this baby. It looks like a VHS tape with the pirated label to give it that extra level of horror on the bookshelf.

Gwildor_I_Hardly_Knew_Hor

Ladies fear not, Rodgers actually is returning some videotapes

Ron Don Volante

I wanna know what VCR Rodgers has and what TV it’s plugged into

Stuart Rose

I want to make a supercut of "dirtbags in movies eating gross pizza in the morning." Off the top of my head, you got James Woods in this, Stallone in Cobra, Arnold in End of Days. I need to research this further...

John Arminio

The punt god that the bills cut is also now on the chiefs. Thanks again Buffalo! Love ya Rodgers

https://youtu.be/vP1kZLGG5gw?si=vaI9KRSbNsS1Iyev The prince video Ben was referencing was the song Alphabet Street . Knew it immediately. That collection of his music videos was a mainstay of parties in my high school and college years. Set it and forget it, or just sit enraptured. Prince=GOAT

I agree with Stanger, body horror is too much for me. Like I get that is artistic and it's not supposed to be pleasing and that's the point of it, but I just don't see myself ever going out of the way to watch that stuff. And I'm a movie buff!

JoBrock Brobama

The trailers are a fun part of vhs collecting, except when it’s just a commercial to buy the movie you are about to watch.

Kris macfalda

Hey, did I mention Scanner Cop? You guys should do that one.

Has Stanger ever had poutine and regardless would he eat it if offered in the present day (like at a restaurant or something not staffed by an ABZ listener or captain podcast)?

Jeff Popp

Oh, it was just a bad joke, sorry.

Jon Hamre

Baby Blue 2, I remember it well

Mike Dickson

The Boyz made the exact same joke about Debbie Harry's name being a different reference to the old 'Blondie' comic strip? I listened to the whole episode before I made my wisecrack, but must have missed it. My apologies.

Doctor Unk

The ABZ talked about the reduction of the space program in the last several decades decades - I think it's partly for a Videodrome-ish reason; people stopped watching the missions on TV.

Triumph44

Gwildor - with the caveat that it'd have to be Gwildor holding hands with Dar.

Nathan Rodriguez

For some reason, I felt like I had seen this movie before because the industrial bands that I liked in the early 90's all sampled this movie. Funny that I had never seen it until now. Snippets from this movie show up in Cyberaktif's 1991 album Tenebrae Vision. Specifically "That's your head in this box" on Dis Coarse Illusion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fH0POZMbqX8 ... also "See you in Pittsburgh" at the end of Face to Face https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9ptBAdnqK4

Nathan Rodriguez

Why don’t you go back and listen at 2:01:00 and they’ll say that very thing, bud.

Jon Hamre

felt so blueballed when rodgers didn’t give his thoughts on challengers

Emma

Much appreciated!

Rich Kelly

Speaking of Japanese story structure, I was teching for this guy at The Crowd in Chicago (RIP Crowdheads) who's whole bit was having the audience pick a movie on Netflix, watching the first 15 minutes, and then jumping to the last 30 and doing a sort of Riff Trax over the end of the movie. An audience picked some random Japanese movie. The first 15 minutes was just girls walking to school talking to each other. He then jumped to the last 30 minutes, and there were wizards, witches, giant monsters, and deep conversations about the nature of the universe all drenched in the trashiest CGI special effects. The host was all cocky up top and then was at a loss for words during the part where he was supposed to riff. We mostly sat in silence watching the movie.

Irvin

CityTV and CFNY were the main reasons i didn't turn into a Letterkenny cliche like the rest of my small town

eponymouse_ponymouse

i would've bet good money that The Fly or Existenz would be the first Cronenberg

eponymouse_ponymouse

There'd be nothing but jungle, then a glimmer... Then you'd have your ding dong gone.

Buddy Jones

Distinctly remember overly windy or rainy weather knocking out the tv at a sports bar i worked at with a sat dish

MB

I immediately fell in love with James Woods’ secretary. Super gorgeous.

David Bauer

You don’t run into Captain Podcast in the woods, you’ll never see him coming. While standing in a shallow stream, taking a leak, worrying about tiny fish swimming up stream, you will just find yourself with your ding dong ripped off.

Swimfan69

Hearing rumors that the new Zombie Squad update is a 'Fuck a Fan' tier.

Scott Tammel

Cheeky to do this before Scanners.

Irvin

Skip Scanners and watch Scanner Cop instead

Berko Pierce

2nd most humiliating hand job in cinema, sandwiched between Wong Kar Wai's The Hand and Green Knight.

Blondie was the doctors name

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

That’s awesome, I bought that vinyl last year. Great art man!

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

When I was a teenager, my girlfriend at the time worked at the CVS where James Woods would pick up his mother’s prescriptions. He’d always hit on my girlfriend’s 15-year-old coworker; He was almost 60. They only knew James Woods as a voice from ‘Family Guy’—so I remember watching this movie, ‘Salvador’, ‘Once Upon a Time in America’, and ‘The Virgin Suicides’ for context.

Frank Kimball

Holy Bane voice, Batman.

FiddlersGreenDay

Rogers would have definitely appreciated this regular event in CityTV programming calendar during the 80’s and 90’s https://youtu.be/TgFoWKNeOw4?si=5KxZ-U4pdeRDvn-a

Canadian Day Player

CityTv! It was awesome. Rodgers I wonder if it made it to Buffalo? Had fun shows they created like Fashion Television with Jeanie Becker, Ed The Sock (sock puppet interview show) MuchMusic (our MTV), any of this make it down there?

Identical Quinns

Hey Actionboyz, I'm an illustrator and have been fortunate to work on a number of Cronenberg and Howard Shore vinyl releases, including Videodrome --> https://www.rfkelly.com/videodrome/ I'd be happy to send a box of records your way as thank you for all the laughs

Rich Kelly

Ryan is so sweet when he is thinking about the audience worried you guys hate us lol ❤️

I recently read Mel Brooks autobiography and he described Mario Puzo as cartoonish glutton who devoured dagwoods at group luncheons. Brooks said that nobody would have any leftovers because Puzo ate off of everyone’s plate Also Brooks’ company produced Cronenberg’s Fly (0 out of 7,000 found this interesting)

Joe B

Actually, that's a common misconception. "Blondie" is the name of the band; the blonde female singer is named "Dagwood."

Doctor Unk

Rewatching now… is father o blivion the same guy who talks about the “cubbies” in back to the future 2? I refuse to google it.

David McElroy

If I was gonna choose one giant to suffocate me, I'd go with Jeremy Shockey.

Gil Slits

Weird coincidence that this episode dropped the day they released a quick teaser for his new movie “The Shrouds” which will debut at Cannes in a couple days

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

“My monkey’s out of charge” 🤣🤣🤣

Paul Perez

I watched The Generals Daughter. He is scummy and irritating so it’s not a deal breaker.

VHSMIA

https://www.nasa.gov/humans-in-space/artemis/ So I saw the mission patch for this future flight to the moon and read up. If you skim it, it looks hopefully, but the realities y’all talked about does dim the possibilities.

We named our newish puppy Debbie Hairy, so this is quite timely.

Adam Kronfeld

Finally 😭 fucking finally 😭

PizzaCrustPunk

My perception of this film is intertwined with being a teenager watching it in the dark, by myself after midnight, on Pay TV in my parent’s basement. As a Gen X Toronto kid, Videodrome has a special place in my heart by fusing Burroughs, Ballard, video nasties, Canuxploitation and our local 70’s and 80’s media culture (CityTV, Marshall McLuhan, porn fear). The brown and grey Spring / Fall tones of the cinematography captures how Toronto is overcast for half of the year.

Canadian Day Player

Southern Ontario kid representing. CityTV was the cool Toronto station that'd show B-movies and softcore late night. Check out a very ABZ promo : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9GZl3Z_kJE and a Baby Blue promo at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z_MdEygB1Y There's a bunch of chill street content too, if you're down for an ambient tour of mid-'80s Toronto at night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zkl2S7kAZM&t=130s

eponymouse_ponymouse

Still need to see that one. But I did see Infinity Pool. Thought that was pretty good. Great performance from Mia Goth

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

Possessor is one of my recent favorites.

PatrickKilbrogan

I see that James Woods is trending on Twitter. I am not going to click and find out why, and just assume it is because this episode dropped.

David D.

Anyone catch Cronenbergs daughter Caitlins first film “Humane”? It had a limited theatrical run a couple weeks ago. It’ll probably be streaming soon. It looks fun, and nepo baby discussions aside, I like that his kids are out there directing weird movies, keeping the family legacy alive

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

Can’t wait for the “Apollo and Dionysus” Shadow Wolves this month

PatrickKilbrogan

I was so concerned that Stanger was going to be buried forever... he deserves two kisses this week.

HappyBirthdayPaulie

If you're alone in the woods would you rather run into a random Gwildor or any Captain Podcast?

Remember that video of Captain Podcast fucking that frog? That really made the rounds back in the day

Gilligan(The marooned Ranchero)

I am the ActionBoyzPod made flesh.

JoeGroganExperience

James Woods is really good at playing a dirt bag—on and off screen.

Paul

This is my favourite podcast that references livejasmin.

Adam Lane

Do you guys think there's enough action in Barton Fink for it to get an episode?

B. Traven

Not much to say. I'm glad this gave me a reason to watch this, I enjoyed it some. I can confirm those little cable satellite dishes from the late 90s early 00s absolutely stopped working in heavy rain
