Jean-Claude Van Damme stories below: For context, I heard these anecdotes from a co-star during a commercial shoot that I did here in Shanghai. Fascinating guy in his mid-60s who previously worked as a used car salesman, archeologist, sound guy for TV and movies, and now a part time actor in his retirement. He had multiple selfies of him and JCVD on the set of “Pound of Flesh” (2015) to back up his account. First off, JCVD was apparently great to work with, and loved this guy in particular because he spoke French. However, he was apparently so friend mentally that he couldn’t remember more than three words at a time, so there was always cue cards off camera for him. JCVD on Sylvester Stallone: “You know, Sly, he is always Sly. Doesn’t matter if the camera is on him or not, he is always the same Sly.” I don’t know what this means, but it also makes perfect sense. One night JCVD decides he’s going to make his move on the female lead, Charlotte Peters. So, he shows up at her hotel room with a bottle of champagne, knocks, and his co-star Darren Shahlavi comes to the door. Apparently JCVD just handed him the bottle of champagne and walked back to his own room without saying a word. That’s all the JCVD stuff I can remember, but the guy had a bunch of other interesting stories from the set of movies like “Gang of Rose” (2003). I’d never even heard of it (and I'm a movie buff!), but it’s a western movie starring Lil Kim and Stacey Dash and featuring Bobby Brown and Macy Gray. He said Lil Kim was amazing, but Stacy Dash was an asshole (I know, hard to believe…) Anyways, I look forward to getting roasted for all the effort I put into this stupid fucking post. Time to get back to mopping the floors.
