"Look on the bright side, Medal-of-Honor-Girl," Lucienne smirked, tilting the body’s shared shoulder so the grafted head of Captain Nancy wobbled. "You finally achieved your dream of being 'ahead' of the competition. Though, technically, you’re more like a very high-maintenance scarf now."

Nancy scowled, her eyes darting toward the empty space where her arm used to be. "Very funny, Lulu. I’m a decorated war hero, not a fashion accessory. And stop shrugging! You’re giving me motion sickness."

"Oh, please," Lucienne giggled, poking Nancy's cheek. "You used to be a handful, but now you’re not even an armful. I’m basically carrying this entire relationship on my back—well, my shoulder. Do I get a medal for 'Outstanding Achievement in Human Carpooling'?"

"Just get us to the mess hall," Nancy sighed. "And don't you dare try to 'double-fist' the pudding. We only have one hand, and it’s mine to control today!"
