Livesteam Write-Up/ End of March Update

Hello and thank you all very much for your support on here, and for waiting on this write-up of Tuesday’s livestream (which is viewable here).

It took a while because I know how text walls aren’t exactly fun to read, so I was trying to strike the right balance between informative and a bit more visually interesting, not too dissimilar to how I reported back on the policy livestream in August 2022, following what instigated all this in the first place. You should read the journalsfor way more context as I tend to update each entry with new information.

So without further ado, I’ll present the information in order of what was discussed, barring one issue, but it’ll make sense as to why (given the parameters I have to work in on here, hopefully 🤞🏾).

Patreon have collaborated with the following organisations:

https://www.thorn.org/ (charity founded by Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore)

https://www.technologycoalition.org/ (an international organisation centred on preventing the ease of access to harmful content – Patreon itself became the latest member, as detailed on this blog post.

This North American charity.

OFCOM was briefly mentioned—for context, OFCOM are the media regulators of the UK; the acronym means Office of Communications.  I half-suspect this platform was bowing under increasing pressure to co-operate, given what happened over here recently.

Overall, this platform wanted to make it clear that 2023 will see a lot of their policies and regulations updated/amended to enable better protection against… easily-accessible inappropriate content and the immoral production of such media, let’s put it that way.

They referred to Section Two-Hundred and Thirty a lot, which given this platform is based in California, they’re subject to the USA-specific Act.  I believe something happened recently-ish (at the time of posting this, 31st March 2022) involving a Group Letter and it being sent?  I don’t really understand the full context of this because I’m based in the UK.  The GDPR agreement means I'm geoblocked out of most US-based resources/news sites, ergo my information on this is very limited. I’m very sorry.

I was hoping someone more familiar with what’s going on in the US right now would contextualise this before posting this, but no such luck. 😔

Regardless, the link to the Livestream itself is available here.

Thanks for reading.  Look out for a new journal next month that will better detail what will happen then (re: archive keys, etc).

Thank you yet again for being the -only- content creator in my orbit to even mention these issues. This soft terrain might explain why a number of content creators pause or drop out entirely.
