Poking Around Pt 128

I was in a really weird headspace when producing this page.  I was thinking a lot about Pierre Bourdieu’s essays on sociology, predominantly his musings on what he called habitus.  It’s far too broad a subject to go into detail here, but in layman’s terms, it’s the way in which individuals come together, usually through shared experiences or similar backgrounds, and how doing that affects the individual in terms of their behaviours and perceptions.

I think my own unfortunate attempts at initiating and analysing social interaction (at least in the online sphere) had a lot to play in this too.  So mileage will vary in terms of how well one can relate to this, or even if they agree or not.  That’s alright.  A part of me doing this comic is to better process myself, and what’s going on around me (and let’s be real, stirring the so-called “lower baser emotions” for the audience, ha!)

Still, as always, thank you so much for supporting this story insofar, really appreciate it. Next time, more action panels, I promise.  In the meantime, a few TL notes this time, as not everything will make sense:

TL Notes

• “He’s probably goofy from…”: A portmanteau of a Simpsons’ reference and this creature.
• “That Yunnobah Place”: I’ve not bought it up in a very long time (I think not since Part 19?), but it’s referring to Unova, which represents the point I dropped out of following the franchise for a very long time.
• “Tochi-Nantoka”: I honestly couldn’t remember Hideki’s surname; I think it’s Tochinikinomori (tochiniki 橡 means Japanese horse chestnut, 森 mori being forest) but I’m not 100% sure…
• “Strange ...fellows”: meaning people who are connected in a certain situation or activity but are extremely different in overall characteristics, opinions, ideologies, behaviours, etc.
• GlimGlam: This social media entity. (formerly spoofed as KlingKlang, in reference to this gear creature)
• Cliquebait: This other social media entity.
• Virtualaibu: This company which is very popular with a niche audience.
• Wit: This video streaming platform.
• “Move to Survive”: In reference to the recent (at the time of publishing) video game.
• “Spaghetti Kitty”: This recently announced (at the time of publishing) cat.
