You Will Want to Read This...

OK, I admit this is a bit of an exaggeration but not by much.

What am I on about? Well, as highlighted in this journal entry from last week, there was a livestream to clarify what this platform’s new policy regarding certain content creators. You can view a recording of said livestream right here.

Essentially, the policy will be:

This will apply to all Content Creators, irrespective of where they are based, including me. The due date for this to start is 15th October.

Presently this policy does not apply retroactively. That means anything already on here beforehand isn’t affected by it --- yet.

That’s all I can definitely affirm. Unfortunately, the livestream was rather vague on finer details like who the said third-party company will be, how this will work on an international scale, data privacy/safety and so forth.  Patreon says it'll update people accordingly. 

So what happens now?

Well, I have no plans to disappear off this platform. I love doing this and it’s my mainstay. I owe all you Patrons so much for helping me get through the past year and a half, and I’d loathe giving it up, especially given how there is a lot of uncertainty in my country right now.

So come  8th October 2021 (next Friday), I’ll be back here doing content as normal until such time my summons come (or I land in hot water, whichever comes first).

If anything happens, I’ll let you know.

As frustrating as the YouTube-style policy is (this is a European thing only so don’t worry about it if you’re in the Americas or Australia or something), I can understand the pressure this platform is under from a certain payment-processing company, especially as this platform continues to grow.

Who knows? Maybe like what happened regarding a certain other platform, they may change their mind? Wouldn’t be the first time… but we shall have to wait and see; there are too many unknowns for me to speculate further.

Sorry for the doom and gloom but I think it’s very important that all you Patrons should be aware of what’s going on. It does worry me how little this is being spoken about… not unlike a certain European policy that mercifully did not go through…

P.S. Sorry September turned out to be a washout, I didn’t really acheive anything, did I? Then again, the point is kind of moot since I’m not charging (provided you haven’tchanged tiers or joined this Patreon after 6th September, more info here).
