I know about my content getting leaked and I have mixed feelings.
On the one hand, I guess I should take it as a badge of honour that I'm still worth cribbing from (which is why I switched to a pay-upfront system years ago when this happened before, so at least I got something back). On the other hand.... umm?
Taking a step back momentarily, I guess it was an inevitability. And despite it happening, I'm fortunate enough to have a lot of Patrons legitimately supporting me (seriously, thank you so so much!) And to be fair, it was all old stuff before the changeover (so either someone panicked when I was retooling my Patreon, or worse, someone trawled through my archives since then 😢)
What does this mean going forward? Not much really. I'm not going to stop what I'm doing here because of a few yo-ho-hos. But it's made me consider either providing more freebies off-site, or totally benign public posts or something. Or do I need not do that? What do you think?
I'm not actually angry or dissapointed or anything by this, funnily enough. But it does set a bit of a worrying precedence going forward --- chiefly because I feel a lot freer making content here because people have gone out of their way to see it -- so I'm worried some schmo might just stumble across something of mine they don't like and that'll set the cat amongst the pigeons, y'know? It's why I privated my bluebird-app account since their 'topics recommendation' algorithm is totally broken. Blah.
So we shall see what happens... just keeping you all posted. I didn't mention the name of the site since I don't like giving them traffic but you'll probably hear about it since they brazenly marketed themselves as such on Twitter, even directly tagging the artists whose content they 'acquire'. So mind out, I say.
Thanks again for your time and support in any event, really appreciate it.
