Man, I thought about this page way too much…
A lot had to be cut out so the story wouldn’t grind to an absolute halt, but I hope this glimpse into Bo’s abode proves insightful, given what we are about to go into this story. I’m working on it so hopefully the wait won’t be too long.
In the meantime, please do enjoy and thanks so much to all those who support this series.
TL Notes:
- Stand-Offish Complex: Spoofing this series. The Kanji above says 水臭い Mizukusai (stand-off) コンプレックス konpurekkusu, a complex in this instance is a building made up of multiple parts but for one specific purpose.
- “Like something straight out of sci-fi…”: In reference to Doctor Who’s time-travelling machine/spacecraft.
- “Art-deco, ‘retro-future’ air”: In reference to Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, or Le Corbusier as he was better known. To put it simply, Le Corbusier was influential in ‘modernising’ architecture and furniture beginning in the 1920s, some thirty, forty years before the style was popularised in wider society. However, Le Corbusier remains a paradoxical figure; on the one hand, much applauded for his timeless elegant furniture designs, and private holiday homes; on the other much reviled for the creation of the high-rise housing (nowadays synonymous with low-income and social deprivation) and the fad of modernist buildings which even nowadays don’t always meet people’s approval. I’m not sure what to think personally… anyway, Bo’s interiors are loosely inspired by the Villa Savoye in Poissy, France. Art deco is a design style popular between the World Wars, which Le Corbusier, the Bauhaus movement and others are considered a part of.
