Heeere’s Geld, or ゲルド Gerudo. It’s understandable as to why the English version went with a different localised name, given the existence of these people. I haven’t heard the Funi-dub so I don’t know if it’s pronounced with a hard G, like guard, or a soft G, like Gerald.
Anyway, from what little I know, Geld is basically one of many side-characters from this series. Despite its generic light novel-based isekai beginnings (an office worker from this world is reincarnated into a medieval fantasy world and gradually amasses a following of his own), the series sees the main character embark upon an as-of-yet unfinished quest to unite a continent of myriad creeds and species that would otherwise be embroiled in war. Geld helps play a part towards this by representing the pig-headed orc tribe, and is named after a Great Orc Lord predecessor.
The first anime adaptation proved popular enough to get a second season, which at the time of posting this, was delayed because… well, you know.
Interestingly, it’s speculated that it’s actually thanks to early editions of Dungeons-and-Dragons which led to the Japanese interpretation of orcs looking like pigs. This has been suggested by the sprite art/illustrations of early Western-fantasy-inspired Japanese video games like Record of Lodoss War, and more famously Dragon Quest. Jump forward over 30 years, and given the popularity these days of medieval-fantasy-based or -inspired isekai light novels and manga, it makes sense if people are basing their own works on what they’ve seen beforehand. A game of Chinese Whispers/Telephone based on visual aesthetics on a grander scale? I wonder if that’s why there’s such a difference between Warcraft-style kobolds and what everyone else is drawing these days?
Anyway, there you go, now you know. I’m not a D&D or isekai-harem fan so Slime wasn’t my cup of tea. But if you want to, give the animated version a go, or the now-officially-translated manga, based on the original web/light novels. Or if not, just enjoy this image!
