All’s Well that Grendel

Sorry to have kept you waiting! Finally, it’s done…!  (re-uploaded to fix a glaring typo)

I wasn’t sure how to pull this off, so I simply adapted what I could of a thing that went around once.  Because I'm shallow.  

I don’t play the video game, so I can’t really give much context behind this beyond “I think the suits look cool.” From what I understand of it, you play as a Tenno, a humanoid alien faction that have their pick of titular Warframes (a biomechanical suit of armour) to explore their world/corner of space and stuff. It’s mostly going around flying and firing at things, whilst uncovering the true nature of what’s going on, etc, etc. Anyway, each ‘Frame has its own unique abilities and can be widely customised to suit the player’s preference.

I have a ton of respect for those artists who can fan-art this stuff on the regular because it took me forever, even with trying to simplify the armour N64/PS1 style so this didn’t take any longer to produce this than it had to. So whilst this isn’t on-model accurate, it’s close enough, right? You can check out what they actually look like here.  

Grendel is actually the only fat one whose schtick is to consume adversaries through its belly maw. The name comes from the monster in the Scandinavian epic, Beowulf.  Quelle coïncidence (as the French would say), my college final saw me illustrate that poem.

Tenno comes from mostly Japanese celestially-related words, like 天王星 tennosei (Uranus), 天の恵み tennomegumi (gift from the gods), 天の一角 tennoikkaku (a point of heaven). That said, the inspiration could possibly come from 四天王, Shiten'ō (Four Heavenly Kings), taken from Buddhist faith. They upload dharma and virtue in the cosmos.
