@joyofnapping making a comparison between Past Lives and Your Name was pretty spot on. My immediate thought after I saw the film was that it felt like if Makoto Shinkai had made a live action film but without a supernatural element. Celine Song did a magnificent job, what a superb directorial debut. Past Lives is just a special film to me.

2023-05-14 18:28:31 +0000 UTCDave, you seem to highlight a lot of Asian or Asian American focused movies, so I'm curious, did you ever see or talk about the movie Blue Bayou from 2021? I saw that in theaters and, maybe I'm a sap, but it absolutely wrecked me. It was written, directed and starred Justin Chon, and I thought he was excellent at all three. I remember after seeing it being sure you'd discuss it at some point, and I might have missed it if you did, but I don't remember that. Did I miss you talking about it, or did you not see it (or you saw it and didn't like it, but don't want to denigrate it)?
