Ladies of the 80’s: J.B. (Full Res)

Hello!

I told you I had an idea for a new fan art series and here’S the first installment! The 1980’s was a unique time for action cartoons, and there were many memorable heroines that stood out amingst the mostly male casts that captured the hearts of many in my generation.  By brainstorming I came up with a list of about 75 different characters from the action cartoon of this time period, and that’s even with leaving out the extended casts of the two female targeted shows that alongside them, She-Ra and Jem.  Anyway, I’ll be picking characters at random from this lineup and taking them for a spin.

First up is Judge J.B. McBride from the space western Bravestarr, made by the toy company and the animation studio that gave us the more well-known  Masters of the Universe.  Like He-Man, it had a cool setting and some interesting characters, but the scripts and animation weren’t quite as sophisticated as many of their contemporaries.  I didn’t pay much attention to this show as a kid, but did some reruns one of the retro TV stations a few years back.  J.B. is an interesting design— a bit of the steampunk vibe before that was really a thing.  One of the odd design choices was the decision to have he bangs fill the role of her eyebrows, which made for an odd look IMO.  I dodged the issue by keeping her hat brim low, as it should be in any character in the Wild West who means business.

So, what do you think? Are you a child of the 1980s who loved these shows? Was Bravestarr one of your favorites? Who are YOU hoping to see?

Until next time!

I remember Captain Power but didn't think to include it as it was live action. I assume autocorrect is interfering with your shoutout to Bravestarr. ;)
