Advanced Access… Supergirl: Into the Sunset

I’ve always enjoyed this show, and even though the last two seasons were a bit off, I still feel like we’re saying goodbye too soon. Season 4 is one of my favorite all-time Arrowverse seasons.

They lost their way in season 5 when they took two of their best characters and ruined them. Having Lena bear a grudge against Supergirl and play into Lex's hands for a whole season after learning Kara's secret identity undermined everything we knew about her as a character. and Brainy's dispassionate alignment with Lex, while an interesting idea at first, was again a plot point that seemed to exist only to artificially create drama. This season has actually done OK given the disruptions caused by COVID and Melissa Benoist's maternity leave, but I did wish they'd had another season without those restrictions to try to wrap things up. Still, the jumbled mess of the finale and bizarre turns like all of a sudden Lena is a magical witch and always was meant to be has convinced me it was time to close the book on this show. I love the Supergirl show and cast oversall and I'd hate to wind up rage-watching it like I've been doing with the Flash the last few years. Maybe some of the better supporting characters like Dreamer can find purpose somewhere else.
