+ 3d models make perspective easier
+ Models potentially have lots of detail
+ Tracing ensures better style merging
+ Controllable light sources makes shading easier
- Tracing them is time consuming.
- Detail is a double edged sword when it comes to line work phase. Might lead to uncanny valley effect.
- Models have to exist and be obtainable.
- Models can be expensive to the point of doing pictures at a signifcant loss.

Not bad. There's another plus side to using a model; now that you have it, you can use the model as a base to make other vehicles.
