Post-Election Check-In: How You Are Doing?
Added 2020-11-05 15:57:44 +0000 UTCHi Patrons,
During better times, I'd have hoped to have already uploaded/published a new podcast, maybe even a vlog, reacting to the results of this year's momentous U.S. Election. Sadly, it was not to be: We don't even know the results yet and it's unclear when we will.
So, I'm waiting and hoping we'll get some clarity in the next day or two. At that point, I'll plan to publish something on Culturally Relevant (I'll also discuss it on this week's Slashfilmcast After Dark).
In the meantime, I wanted to check in and ask: How are you doing? Did you watch the results in real time? Go on media blackout? How are you processing the events of the past few days? Feel free to sound off in the comments.
Here are a few things I've read in the past few days that I've found illuminating:
- From George Packer: Whoever wins or loses, we're still one country, we're still stuck together, and we're still all going to have to deal with that fact.
- Vox published a great overview of the Electoral College on YouTube before the election. See also The Daily's episode about it.
- From The New York Times, a look inside the Trump camp after Fox News made the critical decision of calling Arizona for Biden
- Kathryn VanArendonk wrote a great review on why watching Election Night unfold on TV was torture.
- A week ago, Christian Paz wrote a piece about what liberals don't understand about pro-Trump Latinos. It would prove to be a prescient piece for the week, given the critical component Latinos played in the election.
- Nate Silver wrote a piece about why Trump's 10% chance of winning the election was nothing to ignore. McSweeney's and Slate wrote pieces parodying it.
- Nevada may decide the outcome of the election! Here are some memes about how it's taking so damn long to count those votes.

I was finally able to eat a regular meal yesterday... before then I was too nauseous after seeing the swath of red down the center of the country... it was such a deep-rooted disappointment. I hope everyone else is improving too. Have a good weekend everyone.

My first day was destructive coping mechanisms, junk food and day drinking at a watch party even though I barley drink, then stress baking peanut butter cookies with way too much sugar. After I drank a bunch of water my second day was more productive, took the dog for a long walk, and able to pace myself with the media attention. What I find hilarious is how dated and irrelevant something that is just a few hours old seems.
