While attuned to How to Train a Familiar, you may summon a familiar to your side as an action, as if you cast a find familiar spell. You also gain proficiency in Intelligence (Arcana) skill.
In addition to providing a loyal companion, How to Train a Familiar is a powerful source of knowledge, containing spells and magical incantations that can be used to enhance your familiar's abilities. At the DM's discretion, you may spend a week studying the book to gain the following benefits:
- You may teach your familiar one cantrip from any class spell list.
- Your familiar gains proficiency in one skill.
- Your familiar gains proficiency in one saving throw.
These enhancements are permanent (they affect the familiar each time it is summoned), and the familiar can have only one enhancement from each group. DM may allow you to retrain the familiar at their own discretion.
