Another video in the bag. This time one returning to video games!
Seeing Metroid Prime, RE4, and Dead Space get some discussion, I decided I wanted to talk a little bit about video game remakes/remasters/rebuilds/ports and why they exist. And I felt like clearing up a bit of the confusion around the terms, since even in my research it was hard to find any solid definitions that didn't contradict or overlap with each other. It took a while to draft up some new definitions and clarify my opinions on the usefuleness of re-releases, but I think I did a solid job.
Recording and editing the video I wanted to make it closer to my last one, where I switched up the look. I like the framing of me on the side with the couch in the bottom, taking up the whole frame. And blurred backgrounds of video game locations felt really natural and looked best to me. Finding "video game ambience" videos on YouTube was easy, and I think I'll use stuff like that for all my videos going forward. If you'll notice, I even used only backgrounds from remakes/remasters.
I wanted the whole video to be a bit faster and lighter than previous ones. And so there were more jokes scattered in and a little more edits than usual. I think it works to make it higher energy, and the retention on the YouTube side is good, so I think people liked it. I still enjoy making longform content mostly, but I do want to get out some shorter, simpler videos that are more easy to watch.
(Also disregard the weird colors on the editing timeline. I changed up my label colors after finishing editing, so they were all messed up for the screenshot)
I know I keep saying this, but I promise I'm working on making videos faster. This one taking nearly a month wasn't intentional and I'm trying not to have such big gaps in my upload schedule anymore. I've already got the next anime randomizer video planned out, I just need to record and script that. So hopefully I can finally get out of this slump and get the ball rolling with more content.
If you have any questions about the video, or thoughts on the final result, let me know!
