Reborn as the First Boss, Chapter 89

Chapter 89 – Dragon(s)layer

We made sure that we were all rested and ready before we left the boss room. The next floor, according to the Guild’s reports, held only one creature, and there was no door to wait at before going in. Once we went down the stairs, we would be in the boss room, facing the final boss of the dungeon, Ilbanth the Firelord. An actual Lesser Flame Dragon, he would be no mere beast like the Drakes were. He would have a class, and a profession, like Frostmaw.

The Guild’s information said that the Firelord was a Level 10 Dragonflame Shaper / Master Enchanter. One of the reasons he was called the Firelord was because Ilbanth had figured out how to turn his breath into constructs and objects which he could then enchant. Which meant we would have to fight through them, while dealing with his own draconic powers. This would not be an easy fight, if we came with the normal numbers or typical tactics of adventurers from the Guild.

Thankfully, the passage down was large enough that Frostmaw could go through without shrinking back down. That was good, because Frostmaw was going to be a key part of our plan. Dragons were territorial by nature, and Ilbanth would not be able to ignore another dragon, especially a male dragon, imposing upon his domain. The two dragons had opposite elements, which meant that their breath weapons would actually hurt the other. We weren’t so lucky as to have Ilbanth be weak against frost, unfortunately, but being able to take damage from those attacks was good enough.

Frostmaw led the way, and the rest of us followed. The plan was for the others to split to the left and right of the entrance, breaking off into groups with Astruth protecting one side, and Rastran guarding the other. Jewell and Angelina went with Astruth, while Linette, Syllia, and Zazriel went with Rastran. Meanwhile, I would next to Frostmaw. The two of us would draw the dragon’s attention, while the others struck. Each group would have at least one person who could take a hit, and one who could dish them out, as well as someone with healing magic, though both Syllia and Zazriel were limited in how much healing they could do. Better than nothing, at least.

That was the plan, anyways. There wasn’t much more we could do with a room that was essentially a wide, open space with little in the way of cover and a dragon to fight. Fortunately, there was a roof to the space, so it wasn’t like the dragon would be able to fly up, out of reach. That was something, at least.

Frostmaw roared a challenge the moment we entered the chamber, and another roar answered him. The boss room was roughly circular, almost one hundred meters from one side to the other. Thirty meters away, in the center of the room was a massive pile of treasure where the dragon made his bed. And atop the pile of coins, gems, and other items, the dragon himself was stirring, moving towards us with rage in his eyes.

Perfect. He was too focused on Frostmaw to care about the others spreading out around him. Not that I thought for a second he was ignorant of their presence. Dragons had keen senses, after all. But it was clear that he viewed Frostmaw as the major threat, the one he needed to put down first, before things could turn against him. In a normal group, he probably would have been right. Too bad for him, we were anything but a normal group.

The dragon charged, Frostmaw met Ilbanth’s [Dragonflame Breath] with his own [Dragonfrost Breath]. The two attacks clashed as they met, and were almost evenly matched, with Ilbanth’s being only slightly stronger. But the strength of it had been depleted, and the flames did not reach us. However, the cloud of steam that rose up from meeting was perfect cover for my first trick.

I dumped one hundred times the normal MP cost to use a [Magic Bullet] from my [Spellshooter], and a double-barreled [Hellfire Blast] from [Demon’s Due], allowing me to use [Weakening Shot] with both of them. The [Piercing Attacks] ability of my [Dark Lady’s Traveling Spellgoggles] meant the attacks would ignore the dragon’s natural armor. Krenrena’s Blessing added my CHA again to each bullet’s impact as divine damage, bringing the total up to (CHA2) for the [Spellshooter] and (CHA2.5)*2 for [Demon’s Due]. Both weapons had [Giantslayer], which doubled the damage for creatures above my level, and [Dragon’s Bane], which doubled the damage against Dragons. Because the Voice of the World wasn’t completely busted, that ended up making the damage triple the normal, making it 10,410 damage from the [Spellshooter], and 26,025 damage from [Demon’s Due]. Then [Weakening Shot] came in, and reduced the dragon’s STR by 1/10 of the damage dealt, or 3643.

Ilbanth the Firelord staggered, and then stumbled, collapsing to the ground with a mighty crash. He wasn’t dead. Thirty-six thousand HP worth of damage wasn’t enough to kill him, even with it all slipping past his defenses. However, his STR, according to the reports, was barely more than two thousand. I could believe it, since apparently part of the Lesser Dragon racial bonus was gaining +30 STR, +10 CON, and +10 CHA per level. There was a reason you got a title for slaying even a Lesser Dragon, and there wasn’t a title like Succubus Slayer.

Even so, with his STR reduced to 0 for twenty-four hours, killing him should be fairly simple. He could not stand, and was barely able to defend himself, after all. He could use his dragonbreath, but that was all. Well, except for the ten Dragonflame Constructs that descended from the ceiling, where they had been impersonating torches and the like. They moved at their master’s mental commands, but without him to join their attacks, I knew their effectiveness would be lessened.

Astruth’s blade tore through a construct in the shape of a wolf, while his shield slammed a human-shaped construct. Jewell’s twin blades ripped through the humanoid construct, shredding its ‘back’, while Angelina used her magic pistol to hit a second wolf construct, the magic bullet forcing the semi-corporeal thing solid. The old [Darkhunter Pistol] had been upgraded several times since I’d picked it up from the Inquisitor’s apprentice, but it still served Angelina well.

On the other side, three more constructs attacked Rastran and his group. However, the three cat-shaped constructs were well and truly outmatched. Syllia’s [Waterbending] was especially effective against them, while Rastran’s [Hellfire Breath] and Zazriel’s [Radiance Blast] had truly impressive results. And Linette did not fall behind, as her twin blades slashed through the constructs like they were made of paper.

Four of the constructs, each looking like a miniature dragon, descended upon Frostmaw and I. I stood my ground, using the [Magic Missile] spell with both guns. Each pull of the trigger unleashed ten magic missiles for the paltry cost of 110 MP, and each missile did my CHA in Force damage, and then my CHA again in divine damage. The spells, which literally could not miss, soon shredded the four constructs, almost before they had a chance to do more than glare in our direction.

While I dealt with our constructs, Frostmaw moved forward, not giving Ilbanth the chance to try magic, or to conjure more constructs. The Lesser Frost Dragon’s maw descended upon Ilbanth’s neck and began savaging the dragon’s throat. All the while, the dragon did not have the strength to even put up a semblance of defense.

I used just shy of 4000 MP in the fight, and it was already over. Well, in practical terms it was over. Ilbanth still clung to life, but he was fading. Bleeding wounds from the throat would not heal while Frostmaw kept savaging him, his constructs were beaten, and he was unable to move in the slightest.

The plan had gone off better than I could have hoped. I had not expected the [Weakening Shot] to be quite so effective. Not that I didn’t expect the damage to go through. Rather, I would have thought that the dragon would have some skill or ability to keep people from trying tricks like this. Then again, most people weren’t me, so the idea of someone being able to reduce the dragon to 0 STR so quickly was laughable, at best. Anyone who didn’t know my true abilities would say I’d had too much to drink if I told them that tale.

“Frostmaw, flip him on his back.”

[Arcane Ritualist] gave me the ability to cast the ritual without setting up a circle, so long as I was suitably familiar with the ritual. Fortunately, this was one of those rituals that I knew quite well by now. [Charm] and [Improved Carnal Arts] ensured that Ilbanth responded, despite himself, as I quickly slid off my boots and pants. His member emerged from its sheath, and proved to be just over a meter in length and a third of that in girth.

If I did not have the [Enduring Body] capstone skill from the Courtesan profession, I was pretty sure that, even with my being a Greater Angelic Succubus, what I was planning would have broken me in half. Using my [Demontouched Sacrificial Dagger], I carved runes into the tender flesh before me, ensuring that, no matter what, it would not falter before the dragon died. Then, I impaled myself. Literally. Somehow, I managed to force it in until the tip came out through my mouth, and I was not only alive, but completely undamaged. It didn’t even hurt. One more impossibility made possible in this game-like world.

Ilbanth was not well pleased with this treatment, but then, he didn’t get a vote in the matter, despite cursing at me through the [Telepathy] link. I rode him as only a Blessed and Profane Courtesan could, relishing the impossible sensations as his life faded. But only for a while. As interesting an experience as it was licking a cock as it came up through my throat, I wanted the final moments to be simpler.

I pulled myself forward, until most of Ilbanth’s length was outside me, and what was left fit in ‘naturally’. Back and forth I slid as I pressed myself against the dragon’s scaled belly, taking that small portion of his length into me. And then, just as Ilbanth’s HP hit zero, I felt a molten warmth explode inside me. Literally molten. If I didn’t have [Enduring Body], I might have been scorched down there.
