Arcane S2E06 Watch A Long

Hey Peaches! Everyone is converging on Victor's cult....I mean commune.... As Vi and Jinx are looking for help with Vander, Ambessa is looking for a new weapon. It's a volatile mix that's sure to bring trouble.

Jay: You don't bring a kid in to sacrifice them *stares intently into my soul* Me: I-I didn't make that dec-decision.

Brian Small

I think her sacrifice was so foreshadowed from the beginning... she's thrown herselt at everything that threatened people she cared about, jumping directly in front of Warwick when the cult approached, Even jumping on "Zangief"'s head and pounding away on him when he could have just killed her in an instant just to distract him, and he almost did throwing her so her head was bashed against the fountain, and she was content as she was knocked unconscious... That, and it representing the recklesness that Jinx vs Powder inspired in her, which hopefully will get her to see that what she's doing, like you started to say. We'll see, but definitely the hardest emotional gut punch since the end of season one with that shot hitting the tower... Wow...

Other thoughts and notes: - if you pause one of the sorta impact frame things on salvo when he’s talking to Jayce, he looks like a freaky alien >> was Viktor actually creating arcane monsters of sorts ? A controllable hive mind for the arcane that I think was trying to manipulate Viktor?? (I think the assistant’s appearance was just a manipulation) >> also maybe that’s why Jayce just outright killed that guy ? He saw the future or a vision or something of what that all was - Also after the escort of Vi/Jinx & co into the commune was adamant about weapons, things were all gung ho about Jayce coming in with a hammer ?? After just killing salvo which we can assume Viktor knew ? And I think the escort said that V was expecting J >> did Viktor want Jayce to take that action? Was it meant to be ? Something of that sort ? (Maybe because V knew about the manipulation or still in his unconscious feared the potential of hextech and messing w the arcane ?)

I think other people got most of my Isha thoughts. Isha, Jinx’s pseudo-daughter who had “stepped up” to inspire Zaunite action when jinx was nowhere to be found during Caitlyn’s fascist era, was trying to live up to the image and legend that is her role model / guardian, albeit maybe (obviously) didn’t go about things in the most well-thought-out, chill ways. (Not unlike season 1 powder trying to be just like big sis.) Of course this is going to hit jinx hard. Maybe it’ll make her understand Vi a little more too

Eileen Hinman

I think the three gems was a parallel to powder in season 1 arc 1 as well from what I recall

Eileen Hinman

Well... The Victor Cult had children too so is that a "Choice" of the writers you guys don't like?

Bernard Manansala

Exactly, like when Caitlyn and Vi were battling Jinx and Sevika. Even though Vi calls Jinx her sister all Isha would have seen was 2 enforcers attacking the person who saved her hence her actions, which makes sense given the world she grew up in. The war would have started whether Jinx shot the gun or not because Silco wasn't going to give her over. Even if Jinx/Powder never existed I feel the war would have happened due to people being fed up, you could see that in season 1. I understand Caitlyn's headspace but this runs deeper than that, it is systemic.

LunaLee

Yeah like Caitlyn has gone full crackdown mode for months at this point. We start this series after Zaun has undergone decades of oppression, everything stems from Piltover both refusing to care about Zaun but also not being willing to give them sovereignty because they need their natural resources. Caitlyn, as much as we understand how she got there, is the military dictator of an occupying fascist state.

Beagle

I completely agree

LunaLee

I will be honest this is probably the first review I don't quite agree with you on, no hate at all i love you guys :) not liking the Isha death isn't what i have the issue with it it's more the fact i feel you are a little hard on Jinx and not nearly enough on Caitlyn. I love both characters but Caitlyn saying things like peaceful occupation and stuff isn't absolved just like that, especially as she comes from the background of the oppressors. The war was only a problem when it hurt her directly. The comment about Jinx understanding that the actions of her consequences hurting someone else other than herself didn't sit right to me purely because her actions are some of what causes her mental issues which are very clearly displayed as well as Vi's. She constantly deals with those consequences. She was even done with Jinx till Isha forced her hand.

LunaLee

Sorry for the essay I just have lots of feelings

Beagle

Rewatching this I just noticed Isha's outfit is is a copy of Jinx, right down to her little striped pants. This episode broke my heart.

As far as Isha goes, I think we need to remember that this entire story started off with two kids dying because of hextech created by overeager Piltover scientists being weaponized in undercity conflicts (which is what happened here too.) That happened again when Jayce raided the shimmer factory in S1, where he personally killed a child himself. Kids have never really been safe in this show. It's a war between an oppressive occupying force and a radicalized local population, both armed with incredibly powerful weapons that they really don't understand at all. I know we as the audience were really attached to Isha in particular, but I do appreciate the show being willing to tackle how children are routinely caught up in violence. I think Isha's sacrifice was a product of the radicalization that results from occupation and oppression, combined with the dedication and love that Jinx inspired in her. She was the definition of a "true believer," and we've watched her dedication grow steadily over time to the point where she straight-up jumped on Rictus' head and tried to beat him to death with her bare hands. Where it goes from here I'm not sure, but I will say I seriously doubt this gives us "Powder" back. If anything, I think Jinx goes on the warpath.

Beagle

So what make's Isha different than Mylo and Claggor? All 3 of them are kids introduced "to be sacrificed" for the sake of other character's plot and development. Edit: Just wanted tot edit this and say I wasn't trying to be negative, love your guys' stuff, and love the honest reactions regardless of if I feel the same as yall. Hope your day/evenings are going well, and thanks for the fun content. Cheers (:

Also its called a cliffhanger guys. Of course you dont know the ramifications yet. Thats the point.

Isha's final act is pretty polarizing right now. I personally love it because of the way it played out. Especially the way Warwick/Vander looked like he was crying when Isha went to put him out of his misery.
