The Acolyte S1E05 Watch A Long

Hey Peaches! Here we go, the fight we've been waiting for. But after all this action and bodies hitting the floor......what's left? I don't think we've been this confused/whelmed/frustrated in a long while. How do y'all feel after this one? And where are we going in the last three episodes?

I really, honestly, do not know what's going on with the endings of these episodes. They ALL seem very abrupt and leave the story in a weird place. Either the showrunner doesn't know how endings work, or these episodes were meant to be a different length - or less episodes with more time, or even a movie - and an editor chopped them all up and put them together without refilming anything.

I'm really surprised Adam didn't recognize it given his love of the EU - but then again, I didn't acknowledge it myself until after the episode.

I love Andor and Rogue One. This show, not so much. But Lee Jung-Jae and Dafne Keen are awesome and Manny Jacinto 's versatility, charm and bodily gestures are the best things that have happened to The Acolyte & Star Wars in a long time. Imho of course.

The Sith's helmet and vambrace are made of a metal called Cortosis. It's unique property is its ability to short out lightsabers.

To be fair... you say no one is forcing him to kill them... but literally the Jedi kind of are... either he kills any that know about him, or they find, and imprison or kill him because they won't tolerate a non Jedi using the force in a way thesy don't approve of. Because of that, they are a threat to his existence if he wants to use/study the force in his own way. That being said, I'm not saying that he isn't evil... though he might be neutral and proactively acting out of self-defense and the only Jedi that he specifically was trying to kill were the ones that (assuming that it turns out like it seems) violated their oaths and killed or at least contributed to or caused the deaths of people who were exploring the force in their own way... He wasn't chasing down or slaughtering any other Jedi except once he had to expose himself or in self-defense. But we still don't know all the details yet. I'm still guessing he's at least a little evil.

When Jecki died, I cared. She was the best character and would have liked to have left it open to more adventures with her in a better story. This seems like they took a long movie and cut it badly into episodes.

The problem with the fighting is one which was brought up by Yord: He didn't fight the way they expected. The Jedi of that time hadn't seen a Sith in over a millennia. So they only light sabre duels they had were against of the Jedi, who followed the forms EXACTLY. He was chaotic. Yord also said he used the Force to get into their heads, something they weren't trained for. Again, in a duel of two Jedi, you don't do mind tricks. He did. He sapped their confidence so the defenses they usually had up to block Force manipulation of themselves were shattered. Lastly he did *NOT* say he was a Sith. He said THEY would call him a SIth, meaning that they didn't understand what he was and that the only term they had for what he was is Sith.

This episode was really enjoyable for me, it made me instantly forget all of the prior episodes and just enjoy the action. Some of the best lightsaber choreography since RoTS. It felt like each character brought their own personality to their style, which is something that Star Wars has lacked. I'm fully expecting to see another full flashback episode because there's trailer footage we haven't yet seen. Out of that, there will be 2 episodes probably set in current day, Sol probably dies and never gets to report back to the Jedi High Council, so they are none the wiser. There's also suggestion that Qimir knows Sol from the flashback era, as he questions whether Sol 'remembers' who he is. There is chance that at the Coven, it was probably never revealed that Qimir was there, and we may see that in an upcoming episode. There is also question about whether Mae actually started the fire or not, we didn't actually see that part. When Mae talks to Osha this episode about being brainwashed & 'they've taken you away from me', it could be that the Jedi lied to Osha about the events that occurred. That's why we NEED to see the flashback episode upcoming. It also lines up in that earlier episode where both Mae & Osha question eachother over 'What have you done?', neither one of them are sure about the events. Also, the rest of the Jedi & Jedi High Council finding out about Qimir being Sith is only possible if Sol makes it back to them, he's the last Jedi standing who knows about it and Mae is currently with him. I think Sol will die and his knowledge with him, the Council & Jedi community are left none-the-wiser. If that does occur, it doesn't break anything canon wise.

This should've been a movie. This story would benefit from the structure and pacing of a 2.5 hour run time instead of being drawn out over week to week episodes.

I hate to contradict. Qimir specifically says he has no name. He said “the JEDI would call me a Sith,” and he laughed, implying that their understanding of a Sith is misguided or flat out wrong at this point. He keeps blaming them. It could back up how the Jedi are missing their existence this whole time if they’re looking for them in the wrong place. To me, the series is saying black and white “Good vs Evil, light vs dark” thinking is too simplistic. Of course, Qimir’s not taking any responsibility for his choices either. No one’s forcing him or Mae to kill anyone. So I’m not sure we’re meant to have affection for most of these characters. Most aren’t lovable and they keep hiding things from us. Jecki’s a less obvious revolutionary but similar to Andor’s Nemik. Young engaging character… horrible death. We just saw it coming for Nemik because he had willingness to sacrifice written all over him.

I thought it was an improvement compared to the last four episodes and we finally get the see who Darth Zipperface was.

I can confirm I am team chocolate ice cream and mousse, especially when they’re properly made. Not so much pudding. I find too often it is not chocolatey enough and I’m weird about textures. But I get both of you. 👍🏻 I am also team chocolate truffles and crepes. Noms. It’s just a rite of Star wars passage to crawl in a vent now. I’m convinced Sol is covering up something. Probably that Osha had a huge amount or everything to do with the fire, and they blamed it on Mae. He’s giving me Dumbledore and Professor X vibes. Their ideals/willingness to trust/need to do the right thing actually get in the way sometimes. I’m not sure if Qimir was around, but maybe Mother Koril did something or got manipulated…whatever. The story definitely isn’t complete. We love a good Parent Trap reference.

This episode was incendiary, to me. Some of the best Star Wars action to ever hit the screen. I love how the writers are weaponizing our biases for tropes against us by dropping just enough obvious (Qimir) to get our guards down for the real subversions (like the lack of plot armor for Jecki and Yord) in this installment.
