X-Men 97 S1E05 Watch A Long

Hey Peaches! We had no idea what was coming. This one hurts. Strap in.....

X-Men 97 S1E05 Watch A Long

Comments

When you watch this week's episode, make sure to watch the opening for what is there, or what is not...

I love being a peach. It's become habit where I'm starting to drink Peach Mango celsius when I watch Patreon videos hahaha

Most of the time when I watch vids with you, I am more listening to what you are saying while rewatching the show. This episode, I found myself staring at you guys from 20 minutes on. The feelings of shock and dread on your faces during the buildup just increased those same feelings I had (even though I already have seen the episode multiple times at this point.)

Adam, that looked like it kicked the crap out of you. I appreciate you guys bringing it back around though with the "time travel will fix it" because y'all could have gone to a really dark place.

yes we saw the Watcher. When i saw that i was like WtH is about to happen? Best Show on the Webs.

This is an episode that sticks with you. Even knowing that time travel may be a solution to one degree or another (but it may not- the destruction of Genosha stuck in the comics), it takes a day or so to really recover from the funk this hits you with. Invincible is a feel-good pick-me-up by comparison.

The2ndQuest

The only real tell is that the writing is elevated (like Magneto's speeches) and is able to do things they weren't allowed to do in the 90's (reference holocaust, show thousands/millions being killed on-screen) or with a SatAM show (the extended adult conversations, young Rogue's affair with a much older man, etc). It's what brings it up to the level of the MCU and past the more simplistic (but ahead of its time) writing the original run had- while keeping all the trappings, concepts and characters that made the original show so successful and endearing.

The2ndQuest

Did you notice the Watcher?

Brian Taylor

HOLY SHIT!!! The Watcher?!?

Bernard Manansala

Yeah man... That was intense. It's killing me just waiting for the follow up.

It feel like disney is finally starting to get it and let shows be themselves and not Disney-fied. You can't convince me they didn't just find a bunch of old unreleased episodes from the 90s and decided to release them as "new" its so good.

regarding the first thing, it's around timecode 20:40, if you want to look it up

I have waited so patiently for your reaction. I wanted to watch this *with* my friends. I wanted to see your reactions. This is why I love you guys. It’s good to experience this with people who GET IT. Best episode I’ve seen since Breaking Bad. So. Fricken. Amazing. Also, Nexus event, baby…

Quite the show, eh? I just wanted to mention two things that might not have been noticed at the time, which is perfectly understandable given the events. The first is that the Watcher was in the night sky background over Genosha, which is itself often an unpleasant omen, though doubly so whenever Cable is involved! The second is that during Madelyn's use of Cerebro in episode 1 and subsequent vision, we can actually hear one of the verses of the song at the gala being played though slowed down some. At the time, I thought it was just an unsettling nursing rhyme song but such a fun detail to pick up on with rewatches.
