Rings of Power S1E04 Watch Along

Hey Peaches! We're now caught up with RoP! Galadriel lays it down, and lets those in power know that she is a tempest that cannot be stopped! We see Sauron in his latest form. And learn more about the our human king without a kingdom. Oh, and the dwarves discovered Mithril, which is kinda of a huge deal. There's a lot of cool set up going on, and we can't wait for these story lines to start smashing together.

So whoever said they were twisting with "canon", so far this is exactly what happens in the second age, Sauron begins to fortify Mordor and the Numenorans come in force to fight him, Celebrimbor makes the Rings (where saurons influence is we haven't seen yet, but the Durins are right to suspect something sus about this.) Things are just happening simultaneously rather than dragging out for 3000 years. (although we could also just be thousands of years into the second age.)

That was highly enjoyable gents, thanks!

That sword (in the room with the palantir, the seeing stone) was Narsil, the very same blade wielded by Elendil in the battle against Sauron that begins the original Peter Jackson movie. The blade that broke and which Isildur then used to cut the ring off Sauron's hand. Pretty neat little easter egg, I think, for them to make sure it appears here.

I know that these prequel series seem weightless because we know how it ends, but I am so fascinated by this journey. I saw an argument about how Galadriel’s character doesn’t make sense because of what we know of her to be in the original movies, this all-knowing force. However, I am really enjoying seeing her story play out and how she grows into the Lady of the Woods. She’s been tunnel vision in her fight for so long that to me it makes sense of where her character is now. I am loving this journey. Probably my favorite show right now. I love the vibe, the visuals, the dialogue, the MUSIC, and I’m invested in all of the characters.

So the Numenorians REALLY dislike elves at this time in history. They were gifted the isle of Numenor by the Valar (who are basically gods) for supporting them during the first war with Morgoth and his lil buddy Sauron. There was just one caveat: they were forbidden from sailing further west because that way led to Valinor, which was where the elves lived bathed in beautiful light and immortality. It was strictly elves and Valar only. Everything was cool at first. The Numenorians prospered and created an incredible and advanced civilization. They were faithful to the Valar and friendly with the elves and the people of Middle Earth. Eventually as their great civilization reached its peak, however, they came to resent the rule barring them from sailing to the Undying Lands, which denied them immortality. They thought if anyone deserved to live forever, they did. So they became deeply jealous and distrustful of the elves and shut themselves off from everyone. When Galadriel shows up, they haven't seen an elf in a long time, and they see her as a threat. Perhaps she's bringing judgement from the Valar because they've stopped worshipping them. They don't want her to stay but they don't want to let her go, either. She might be a scout who will bring back an army of elves, or she might have dangerous magic. They have forgotten everything about elves except what's in their legends. They honestly don't know what to do with her.

But Adam!, all we want to do is siiiiiiing!

Yes, Southlands == Mordor. From the previous episode, that's what Galadriel found in the library, that Sauron's symbol was actually a map of the new base, and it was the Southlands.
