House of the Dragon S1E04 Watch Along

Comments

Daemon only needed Viserys to believe he and Rhaenyra were together. Regardless of whether it happened, Rhaenyra's virtue is now in question. Daemon was trying to leverage the lie into wedding Rhaenyra. I believe he really desires her in truth but couldn't bring himself to be with her before marriage.

But does she drink the tea???? It feels like a test from the King. If she drinks it, its like admitting she had sex with Daemon, even though she didn't. But if she doesn't drink it......... is she going to have Sir Criston's kid and pretend it is Sir Laenor's or Daemon's? I wonder if Daemon is going to find out she slept with Criston and kill him. It feels like he does have true feeling for her and he already had animostiy with Criston. Next week is going to be a doozy.

My thoughts on Daemon's ED are that he can't get it up when he feels like he doesn't have power (such as when his brother isn't valuing him or a woman is in control of the situation). I think his wife has always hated him, and is too strong a person for him to deal with. Rhaenyra's too strong for him too, even though she's clearly smitten with him. Guilt is also a part of his impotence with her because he sincerely likes her. She seems to be his only friend.

I don't know if Daemon is completely impotent, except in perhaps in a metaphorical way. His family frustrates him and thwarts his efforts. Viserys keeps refusing to listen to him and see his worth. Rhaenyra keeps spoiling his plots by being smart and understanding him so well. He only didn't defile her in public because she showed that she wanted him and made him feel guilty for trying to destroy her reputation. He came home with the intent of putting Viserys in the position of having no choice but to wed Rhaenyra to him, but his family is his weakness and they know all his tricks. You guys could benefit from watching some of the after-show bts clips and maybe a few YT videos discussing all the complexities of this show. I know you probably don't have the time for that though.

For a little history context, once the Targaryens came to Westeros, it was seen by the faith that interbreeding was sinful. But at some point after Aegon the Conquerer died, the Targaryens created a law that basically made them an exception to that rule, stating themselves gods amongst mortals because they could control dragons. So legally, nothing is wrong with Daemon and Rhaenyra marrying. They're so upset because she has not married and women are meant to be virgins on their wedding day and the King is worried no lord will wed her if the rumor gets out. If Daemon wasn't already married and Viserys wasn't so worried about his brother ending up on the throne by marrying her, he probably would have been all for it.

I think Daemon is impotent. His mistress kind of hinted at it at Dragonstone and I think Daemon is just trying to keep up appearances as the confident prince.

First off, I would like to point out this is the first episode of the show directed by a woman since S4 of GOT. Definelty why I think the sex scenes were handled so well Secondly by take on the Daemon/Rhaynera scene is he was fine having sex with her from behind, but the second she turned around, started kissing him and was looking him in the yes, he panicked because there was even the tiniest bit of intimacy

Yes, there is more blood in the opening. The blood stream represents the Targaryan bloodline as it weaves through the sigils of other houses. The sigil that represents Alicent has made a connection from Vyseris and has started its own stream representing that she has had children, notably Aegon. (I saw a breakdown of the title sequence - both this and Rings of Power have some fascinating symbolism in the opening credits). I think Daemon is impotent. If you recall from the first episode, he had trouble "getting it up" in the scene with his partner, and then claimed she was pregnant. Now he tried to get with Rhaenyra and couldn't get it up for her either, and when she started to reciprocate, he got frustrated and left... I think he's been trying to sire an heir to push out his brother but has not been successful. Maybe his wife, whom he has been avoiding, knows this? The blocking in Rhanyra's and Alicent's scene by the Godstree was *chefs kiss*. Rhaenyra clearly lied to her at the end. Also notice after her and Ser Criston get together, she no longer wears her uncle's necklace which she was wearing and playing with at the beginning of the episode. Great reaction! Jay, so good to see you recovered! You seemed to be struggling so hard on the Palooza videos and seem so to be recovered so much since then! Adam, your cringing during the brothel scene was hilarious!

The sync up was very confusing, can you leave the time up from when you start your video, tell us the time code of the "HBO" card so it's easier to count down and sync. It sucks that in Canada we don't have the recap and it's making things harder to sync up. Glad to have you back on this excellent ep!
